Congratulations to all the pupils and staff on a very smooth and productive start to the Summer Term. There is much to look forward to and a real sense of ‘normality’ coming back to the routines and the extra-curricular activities. 

Parents’ Committee Rags-to-Riches:

A reminder that on WEDNESDAY 4th  MAY at 9am – Rags 2 Riches for schools will be making collection at school, so please support it again and now more than ever these clothes and items are desperately needed. 

We will not receive any bags from Rags 2 Riches so please just use any binbag, and don’t forget you can bring as many bags as you can!! What a perfect opportunity to have a sort out as we head (hopefully) into the summer wardrobe. 

Please can all the bags be put outside the music room by 9am on the Wednesday morning. 

Prep School news:

Welcome back to the summer term. This a very busy term within the Prep School, with so much to look forward to; a Jubilee Curriculum Alive Day, trips out, York residential trip, school fete, summer concert, sports day and Prize Giving.

A term of working hard and playing hard. Year 6 will consolidate their studies in preparation for the move into the Middle School and our Year 2 pupils will have opportunity to visit the Junior department in readiness for September.

Pupils have arrived at school this week generally looking smart. But please remember that pupils are to come to school this side of half term either in Winter or Summer uniform, not a combination of both. After half term all pupils will be expected to be in full summer uniform. If girls’ hair is shoulder length, then it should be tied back please.

Next Tuesday we welcome Mrs Pliszko from Worcester University as she joins Year 1 & 2 for her final teaching placement.

Paris Trip update

As the end of May fast approaches I am hoping to meet to give out final information and answer any other questions as soon as possible. However, due to the disruption of ferry services, PGL are unable to confirm exact timings. Music News:

I would like to congratulate all of our performers, technicians, musicians, stage crew and those who supported our production of Oliver! last week. Very well done indeed. The music to Oliver was certainly difficult for the singers and the band, and I have full admiration of those who took on the challenge of realising these songs and performing them with such confidence, expression and conviction. I am proud of every single student who took part or supported our production. What talent we have here at Bowbrook! 

Instrumental: Please note that instrumental lessons have begun this week and timetables have been distributed. Please let me know if your child has not received their timetable.  

Piano and Violin Lessons: As I am sure you are aware, Mrs Corton has been unwell for some time. We can now confirm that she will sadly not be returning to teach at Bowbrook. I am sure you will join me in sending her our best wishes for the future and we thank her for her services to the school. We have now secured a new piano and violin teacher and will confirm as soon as possible when lessons can begin. Thank you for your patience over the last few months.  

Extra-Curricular: The music extra-curricular timetable will resume next week; please see attached timetable. String Group will hopefully resume as soon as possible and we will update parents with this provision as soon as we can. Our first club will begin with Orchestra on Tuesday 3rd May.  

Samba and Drumming Group: Mr Booton, our Drum teacher will be beginning a Junior Samba and Drumming Club soon for our students in the Junior School. Please look out for a letter being sent home next week.  

Other News: 

Congratulations to Jasper Holden who has recently joined us in J6. Jasper has achieved a ‘Distinction with Honours’ in his Grade 4 Viola exam. This is an outstanding achievement, the highest category awarded. Very well done indeed.  

Class I1/2 have also been busy this term playing the ‘Steel Pans’ and making music from Trinidad and Tobago. The children have been busy practising and performing a superb piece of music. Thanks to Miss Smith and Mrs Mao for sharing this.  

Lucy Sinnott in Year 10 has been working very hard towards her recent flute performance; it was a pleasure to hear her perform with such confidence and to a high standard. Well done Lucy! I have also been very impressed with her fantastic essay writing skills this week. What a success Lucy, very well done! 

It was a pleasure to hear Jazz Group rehearse this week. Lucca D’Amore in J6 attended for the first time and contributed to the ensemble very well. Lucca has not been playing the saxophone for very long and has made rapid progress; very well done Lucca.  

Much praise was also given to Tai Camadoo this week in J5 for his keyboard accompaniment to our Boomwhacker ensemble. His attitude and curiosity to extend his work was most commendable. Well done Tai.  

Finally, I would like to thank Miss Tait for sharing with me Toby Bennett’s superb composition of a ‘Switzerland National Anthem’. Toby in J6 has written and sung some fabulous lyrics above a short film for his Geography homework. It was a pleasure to listen to. Well done Toby!

PE Department News

Summer Term

We welcome Mr Swain to the department.  He is a rugby specialist with many other strings to his bow and this week has very much enjoyed meeting and coaching/teaching the pupils in athletics, cricket and GCSE PE. We look forward to his contributions over the coming months. 

Welcome back to the Summer Term which has lots of sporting opportunities in store: There are various cricket and rounders fixtures, inter-school and ISA athletics events and a variety of house matches.  In addition there are a number of lunch time clubs which pupils can take advantage of should they wish. 

Kit for the summer term is PE kit:

White polo T shirt, white socks, blue shorts/maroon skort. (Infants have white shorts).

Cricket whites are not a necessity but do look smart if your child has designs on representing the school in cricket. 

Athletics spikes – again, are not a necessity but pupils may bring them should they wish. 

The cricket nets and athletics track remain available to all at lunchtimes should they wish to train for these respective sports. 

Team Sheets – As usual, these will be pinned to the PE office window one week in advance and also be posted on the E-News each week.  Team sheets include relevant pupils, times, venues etc.  As always we ask that pupils excuse themselves form fixtures in good time before the event if they are unable to fulfil the fixture so staff are afforded ample time to find a replacement.
