J5
autumn - ancient greeks & marvellous mountains
Welcome to Year 5!
We are a class of 10 children taught by Miss Bullard, supported by Mr Fuller.
In history, our topic will be the Ancient Greeks, where we will explore different aspects of life in Ancient Greece. This theme also links to our English learning, where we will be reading Who Let the Gods Out? by Maz Evans and exploring Greek myths to inspire our own writing.
After half term, we move onto our geography topic, Magnificent Mountains, where the children will explore mountains around the world and develop their geographical skills and knowledge.
In Maths, we will begin the year developing our understanding of place value, working with numbers up to 1,000,000, as well as addition and subtraction. We will then move onto multiplication and fractions after half-term.
Our Science topics this term are Forces, where we investigate how forces affect movement, and Earth and Space.
In Art, we will be exploring pottery, linked to Ancient Greece. We will look at patterns, materials and designs, to help us to create our own clay pots.
French will be taught by Mrs Gill, Music by Mr Komor and the children will have spellings with Mrs Adamson on Mondays. The children will be taught computing this year by Mr Bell.
Games and PE will take place on Mondays and Tuesdays. Please ensure that your child has their full PE kit in school on these days
