AUTUMN – STONE AGE & RAINFORESTS

We are a mixed Year 3/4 class, taught by Mrs Thorneywork.  This half term, we are excited to begin our History topic: Stone Age to Iron Age, focusing on our enquiry question; How did life in Britain change from the Stone Age to the Iron Age? Our English lessons will link closely with this topic through our class text and writing opportunities inspired by life in prehistoric Britain.

After half term, our Geography topic will be Rainforests. I am currently arranging a trip to support this learning and hope this will take place towards the end of the first term before we begin our festive celebrations and Christmas activities.

In Maths, we will focus on, place value numbers to 1,000 (Year 3) numbers to 10,000 (Year 4). Followed by addition and subtraction, then later in the term, we will move on to multiplication and division and area.

Our Science topics this term are Rocks; How do rocks and soils tell the story of our Earth? And, Light; How does light help us to see and affect the world around us?

French will be taught by Mrs Gill, Music by Mr Komor, and Religious Education by Mrs Adamson, as will PSHE and Current Affairs.

In Art, we will be exploring the Stone Age through cave paintings, making natural paints and creating Stone Age-inspired sculptures. Followed by our next unit on Rainforests.
