Before we reflect on a productive week, we would just like to wish our S11s the very best of luck with their mock GCSE exams which begin on Monday! I am sure there will be much revision going on this weekend but remember the assembly aptly delivered by S10 this week on revision and the process of learning: When working, we are all easily distracted…mobile phones, siblings, the World Cup! Find a quiet place to work and remove all forms of distraction. But remember, it is just as important to take time to relax, unwind, exercise and refresh. It is a balancing act which is pertinent to us all!

Once again, we have been blown away by the generosity of our school community as demonstrated by the donations received for the Worcester foodbank. Due to the volume they will be sending a van to collect on Tuesday. For anyone who was intending to donate, but haven’t yet got around to it, there will now still be time on Monday. Thank you. The donations will likely serve as a much needed lifeline for many in our county.

Dates for your Diary

School Photographs:

Gillman & Soame took individual and family portraits, the whole school & house group photographs earlier this term. If you haven’t already, please order these photographs as soon as possible (especially if you would like them for Christmas). If details have been mislaid, please contact Mrs Hodgson who can assist. Order deadlines have been extended so that parents won’t pay late fees at the moment but orders do need to be placed as soon as possible.

Christmas Raffle

With Christmas fast approaching and after the successes of the previous year’s raffle, the Parents Committee have decided to have another one this year – but we need your help….

Each class will make up a hamper from donations that the children will bring into school the week commencing the 5th December – don’t worry there will be a reminder! The donations can be anything – chocolates, bottles, jams, biscuits, candles or even socks – whatever you would like if you were one of the lucky winners!! Each class will decorate their box, and there will be a competition for the best decorated hamper and a prize for the winning class!!

The draw will take place at the end of term and Raffle tickets will be sent home with the children so keep an eye out in their bags!!

ART ROOM NEWS

On Tuesday, Year 7 went to see the collection of Canaletto paintings at Worcester Gallery. Many of these paintings are privately owned and so it is quite unusual to see so many in one location. Mrs Mellor, Mrs Heaume and Mr Whittingham accompanied the year group. The gallery staff were impressed with the enthusiasm, interest and the brilliant example of engagement shown by our Year 7. Well done to all, it was a real pleasure to be out and about with them. We are busy creating our own Canaletto paintings back at school.

Mrs Izod is eagerly anticipating the art work that will be entered for our Carol Service Cover design. Well done if you have already entered…..make sure you get your design in by Wednesday next week. Hand it to your form teacher or your Arts Council Rep.

News from the Prep School

Thank you to our youngest members of the Prep school – Nursery & Reception – for their super assembly this week. The Prep teachers this week have chosen the following Star Pupils from their forms:

N - Hudson Hartwell for super work in the Nativity.
R - Roux Moss for being helpful.
I1 - George Peacop for super phonics.
I2 - Daniela Bille for writing a super character description.
J3 - Sienna Comens for working well in a team.
J4 - Anna Judge for working hard in all subjects.
J5 - Sam Bowditch for making a positive start to Bowbrook life.
6NS - Alfie Birch for working hard and making great progress in maths.
6SR - Jonah Harris for working with pride.

We also commended Joshua Smith (6SR) for winning in a recent Life Saving tournament that he entered; and Rosalie Wilkinson (6SR) for gaining her silver swimming challenge award. Pippa- Jo Houston (I1) has also had another successful week competing on her pony receiving a second-place rosette. Well done to all of our talented pupils.

This week, our Year 6 pupils had opportunity to visit I1/2 to show and play the board games that they had made during last weeks Curriculum Alive day, it was lovely to see how successful the board games were.

Music News

Congratulations to Oliver Andrews in Year 9 who played beautifully in assembly this week. We wish him lots of luck for his up-and-coming piano exam.

Years 3-9: Please could you support your child in learning their lyrics for our Carol Service on Thursday 8th December. It was evident this week that years 8 and 9 in particular are not fully secure. All students have been given lyric sheets. Please ask your child to see me if they have lost theirs, thank you. A reminder that is an expectation that all students in Years 3-9 attend as well as Year 11 readers and others directly involved in Chamber Choirs and instrumental ensembles, thank you.

Extra-Curricular: Please could I ask for full attendance next week for Lower Chamber Choir, Upper Chamber Choir, Orchestra, Recorders, Jazz Group and Mr Booton’s Drumming Group; thank you.

PE Department News

U14 Hockey v Bredon School

It was an awesome performance from the U14 hockey squad yesterday at Bredon School.

They all worked so hard for the entire match and displayed some great skills. The girls were relentless in attack and the half time score was 5-2. Chloe Mills, Amelia Spears, Sofia Merlin, Lottie Fairchild all scoring. Izzie Wilcox assisted in many goals working her socks off in midfield.

Charlie Rush and Lottie Tocknell worked tirelessly in defence with Lucinda Kirkham in Goal. Bredon certainly tested them but with some confident tackling and great clears out of the D, Bredon struggled to get through.
Final score 9-2 to Bowbrook.

U14 Rugby vs Nunnery Wood

A tough game for the schools U14 team, competing in the semi final of the Worcestershire Schools Plate competition. A strong start from Bowbrook saw them spend the first 5 minutes of the match competing well in the Nunnery half. A strong carry from Tom at number 8 brought the team close to the try line but, under desperation to score first, Bowbrook came up short and narrowly missed getting over the whitewash.

The first try went to Nunnery shortly after. The team got together after the first try and chased after the next kick to put more pressure onto the Nunnery team. A strong tackle from Antonius forced another error for Nunnery but the game turned into a bit of a defensive battle for Bowbrook as the opposition ran directly at the Bowbrook team putting them under pressure over and over again.

Bowbrook defended bravely throughout the match, going into contact well, slowing down the nunnery team.
Bowbrook showed strong periods of attacking play with powerful runs from Albert, Charlie and Will throughout the game, and wonderful ballet style spinning from Tom, but the speed and physicality of the Nunnery team proved to be too much for the boys. A tough result for the team but they should all be proud of how they played and the way they represented the school.

House events

House events will be taking place over the next few weeks, in the build up to Christmas. This starts with house hockey and rugby for the junior school (years 5&6) on Tuesday 29th November, middle school on Thursday 1st December, and senior school on Wednesday 7th December. A reminder to all students to ensure they have their shinpads and gumshields in school, for the hockey, and gumshields and boots for the rugby. Also on Monday 12th December we will be running our house cross country competition, with the ISA cross country competition early in January, and a house tug-of-war competition on Wednesday afternoon. Good luck to all students and to each house in these competitions.

Students should check the PE notice board to see if they are involved in fixtures.
