Bowbrook Newsletter

An exceptionally busy but productive week including an incredibly successful Summer Fete.  Thank you to all the Parents and Parents’ Committee who devoted much of Friday and many hours prior to getting us ready for the School Fete.  It was a lovely atmosphere and enjoyed by the whole community.  The weather was perfect too! Thank you to all attendees for your support.  Thank you to the pupils for your enthusiasm and acquitting yourselves brilliantly, and thank you to all of the staff who facilitated the ‘class stalls’ and gave of their time and energy to make it a success.

Truly a team effort and Bowbrook through and through.  A brilliant afternoon enjoyed by all.

Dates for You Diary

Please find attached a useful rundown of dates and times of events to help you plan ahead of a busy few weeks!  If you are unsure of anything, just ask and we are happy to help.

A Night at The Museum! 

The Prep school are so excited to invite everyone, friends and family too, to a Night at the Museum. Tickets will be available (free) for all from next week for our very special event – Night at the Museum.

All welcome and do bring along grandparents and friends to this new event, where our children get to show you their fantastic project work.  It is going to be a lovely evening event from 4pm to 6pm – where Prep School is open across all classes, with lots of exciting things to see, as well as some additional interactive displays in our main hall from Years 7,8 and 9 with Mrs Farr and Mr Swain in attendance (although you may not recognise Mr Swain!)

We have some Year 10 volunteers to meet you, show you a map of our event and even walk around with canapés!

Middle and Senior School Exam Week – 23rd June

This week year 9 led an assembly on revision and preparing for exams.  Pupils were given practical tips and even some advice from our current year 11’s!  Students should be preparing independently for these end of year exams whilst recognising that they are a normal part of our assessment process and they should not be overly concerned by them. There is a fine balance to be had between thorough preparation and putting them into perspective.  No doubt some will need to be encouraged to work a little harder and others encouraged to ensure they take time for breaks and relax.   We will speak to and be preparing pupils over the next week.  We ask that pupils ensure they have all of their necessary equipment in school to complete the exams.

Art Room News

Year 10 Art: Date for your diary

Please be aware that there will be an extended Art workshop for all year 10 Art GCSE students on Thursday 3rd June from 4-6.30pm. Letters with more information will be sent home next week.

The Young Voices New Visions Exhibition continues this weekend and is open until 30th June in the Cloisters at Worcester Cathedral. Entry into the exhibition is free and there are hundreds of artworks from around the county to view, including ours. So, pop along, if you can between 10am-5pm, Monday to Saturday, and 1pm-3pm on Sundays! This year’s theme is ‘Courage’ and our KS3 students worked really hard last term to create a collaborative Cape of Courage, inspired by Post-Impressionism and the symbolism of flowers.

D of E Silver Expedition Complete

Last weekend 13 Year 10 students completed their final Silver expedition in Derbyshire.  They began on Friday in the Hope Valley, skirting around Ladybower Reservoir then onto Hathersage.  Saturday involved a long walk down the Derwent river and onto Eyam to investigate the plague village before spending Sunday walking along the Monsal Trail to Bakewell.  Despite variable weather, including a heavy downpour on Saturday, all completed their expedition successfully.  32 miles with a heavy backpack is no mean feat so well done to Archie Hughes, Lottie Pennington-Fairchild, Chloe Mills, Cameron John, Tom Randall, Nancy Sefton, Lucy Kirkham, Chloe Darby, Amelia Speers, Tomas Duckworth, Max Chatterton, George Duggan and Ellen Bicknell for a successful expedition.

News from the Prep School

What a lovely week we’ve had in Prep – we are all really excited for the Summer Fayre today and the classes have been busy preparing their stalls.  A huge thank-you to all of you for the generous donations we have received – bottles, sweet jars, books, toys, cakes and a fabulous mountain of teddies!

Some of our older children had an Athletics meet up on Monday and they were praised by Mr Swain for their encouragement of the other schools – well done Max and Oscar.

Tuesday we had a whole school lockdown and we were so impressed with all of our children for how they followed instructions.  The children all had age appropriate lessons prior to this.  It will be part of our regular practise sessions, just like the fire alarm as we move forward.  Also on Tuesday we also were lucky to have an external provider coming in to do a coding session with the Year 6 class.  Craig, from Jam Coding, did a super lesson where the children got to build their racetracks and then race in teams.  Do look out for after school clubs next year that will be available.  Thank-you Mr Swain for booking this for us.

On Wednesday the whole of the current Prep children on role had Lesson 1 in their new groups and/or classrooms for next year.   It was a great opportunity for them to reflect on their goals for next year and for some to see their new classrooms.

We have had several tasters and transitions again this week across the school.  It has been lovely getting to know the new pupils.

Stay & Play sessions start up again next week for three weeks – do let friends know, they are most welcome.

Both Junior and Infant choirs have been busy practising for the Summer Concert – letters went out from Mr Allen yesterday.   We have put in extra slots for these instead of Assembly this week and next week.  But we have still celebrated two fantastic achievements this week:  by Rory J in Year 5 and Hudson in Infants.

Rory plays football for Cookley Warriors and his team won the Champions League Football cup for the under 10s.  They also got through to the final in a second tournament, hosted by Kew Ford Eagles!   Hudson won Player of the Month in his game he played on Wednesday after school for Badsey Rangers Football Team.  He got a hat trick ad the winning goal in the last ten seconds of the match!  Well done to both!

Finally please do remember to email your class teacher requesting free tickets for the Night at the Museum event.  We have the Mayor and Mayoress of Worcester dropping in as their focus for this year is learning, so they are very much looking forward to seeing all the hard work from our children.   We are all getting very excited…!!
