Another busy week at Bowbrook!
Year 11 have done well this week and the GCSE exam timetable is now in full swing with potentially 7 GCSE exams next week. I hope Year 10 are learning from Year 11 what the GCSE ‘experience’ is all about!
Plenty of fixtures and Silver Duke of Edinburgh camp out this weekend too… Lots going on!

Prep School News
What a glorious week in the sunshine! We’ve had lots of visitors this week for our Open Week and our children have been brilliant at chatting to everyone popping in to their classes.
Miss Cox did a lovely assembly for us all this week based on Kindness, from a great book,
‘The Lion and the Mouse.’

Our Stars of the week this week are:
- Infants - Max for super progress in reading
- Year 3 - Adam - for sharing his super historical knowledge and artefacts
- Year 4 - Amelia - for a fantastic week in school, working really hard
- Year 5 - Olivia - for fantastic writing in History abut the Ancient Greek Olympics
- Year 6 - Esther - for being a fantastic addition to our class
Work has begun in all our classes for our big event – Night at the Museum – on Friday, 20th June from 4-6pm. Exciting!

A Day at the Races…
A maths trip apparently! Report by Violet W Year 7
Year 7 went on a trip on Tuesday to Worcester Racecourse with the Maths Department. We arrived at 9:30 and went to a room full of notebooks and jockey uniform to wear.
It was a day of maths and everyone enjoyed it.
We started in the weighing room, here we learned about the types of measures including metric and imperial units which they still use to weigh the jockeys. There are two different types of racing, Flat and Jumping and we were told about the different weight requirements for each type of race and sometimes how the weight needs to be changed depending on the age of the horse and the gender of it.
The second lesson was about more types of measures including metric and how many horses could fit into the warmup arena before the race. Everyone made estimations and then would calculate the real size; everyone being not far off.
We saw all the horses arrive, here they were checked over by the vet and put into the stable to wait for their race and to have a rest, drink and food. We had to stay very quiet and still so as not to spook the horses. We also had a look at the different types of jumps around the course.
At the end of the day we learned about the ‘Race Card’ which told us everything about the owners, jockey’s and the horses e.g. how old they were and information about their previous races. We had to choose a horse and then managed to get to see them as they were warmed up and then actually did the race.
Overall, the event was very successful, and everyone would love to go again.
Art Room News
‘Young Voices New Visions’ takes place each year across Worcester during June and July, celebrating all elements of visual, performing and creative arts. Our KS3 students have been busy this half term in anticipation of the exhibition (situated in the cloisters at the Cathedral) and our ‘Cape of Courage’, filled with flower symbolism, will be on display for all to see. More details to follow next week!
Many thanks for the large pebbles/stones that have been brought in this week, please continue to bring them to the Art room in anticipation of ‘Bowbrook Rocks’ next half term!

You only get once chance to make a first impression
Year 10 geography students were in Birmingham this week doing some Human Geography work. I received this from a lecturer at Birmingham City University:
“My name is Flo Hayles and I am a senior lecturer in education at Birmingham City University. I just wanted to say how lovely it was to leave my building today and be approached by your year 9s who undertaking research here today. At BCU our education team is very much keen to draw attention to the positives going on out in a climate which can be very challenging for educators at times, so I just wanted to take five minutes to say you must all be doing a fab job to churn out such polite and confident young researchers.”
Well done Year 10 … You represented your school very well indeed!
