Congratulations to Year 4… Winners of the National ISA Puppet Show for 2024!

Well done to all of Year 4 … special certificates coming home next week!! It is always fantastic to see us competing on the National stage against pupils in schools from as far afield as Surrey, Blackheath and Huddersfield!

Cheltenham science festival
On Tuesday, 12 Year 9 students had the opportunity to go to the Cheltenham science festival. The activities that we attended were aimed at broadening Year 9’s understanding of the STEM subjects and possible careers beyond. The first lecture was about entry into STEM careers and students were surprised at the various entry routes. Lucinda Kirkham Year 9 said ‘ it was really interesting to hear how apprenticeships could be studied in the work place and that they would lead directly to future employment.
We then spent a session in the ‘Discovery zone’ where students could have a go at various activities such as building landing gear whilst at the same time talk to young adults on apprenticeships or at university. Georgina Duggan, Year 9 enjoyed the Sheffield unit ‘Quantum light communications’ exhibit. She was so inspired that she took home a leaflet and did some more research at home.
All of us enjoyed the presentation by GCHQ around how they analyse data and solve problems to keep our Country safe.
A worthwhile and informative visit.

GCSE ART EXHIBITION 12th June. 4.00 p.m
On Wednesday after school, there will be an exhibition to showcase the work of our Year 11 artists. They have produced some lovely work and would be very proud to show you around the exhibition.
Do drop in if you get the chance. You will not be disappointed!

News from the Prep School
Well, what a busy week we’ve had after the half term break.
It began on Monday with our U11 boys cricket team winning the plate at their ISA festival – very well done, we are so proud of you.
We were also delighted to receive news that our Year 4 children had one first place in the ISA Puppet Show competition with their entry of ‘Jabberwocky’ – this again is a fabulous achievement, well done.
On Wednesday the Infants had a wonderful, investigative day at the Cheltenham Science Festival.
Our Year 2 and Year 6 pupils have had a productive week with end of Key Stage tests; they have all tried their hardest and appear to have done very well. Now it is time for Year 5 and 6 pupils to begin to look forward to their residential trip next week.
Please remember you need to be in school for 8am on Monday and report to the school hall. You will require a healthy snack and filled water bottle for the journey – lunch will be served on arrival at Cuffley. You are not permitted to bring mobile phones. Pupils should be back in school on Wednesday around 4pm.
Thank you to Year 5 for their assembly on Thursday and sharing all of their ‘commitment ideas’ with us.

- J6 - Esme Winsor for settling in so quickly to Bowbrook life.
We also commended the following children for achieving their Accelerated Reader targets: Beau Clarke, Sienna Comens, George Stephens, Oscar Birch, George Haydon, Penny Heaume, Violet Williams and Ayla Wood.
Megan Harris also brought in a rosette that she has recently won for pony jumping and Ariel Lewsey has gained her Bronze award in Musical Theatre.
So much talent in the department. Congratulations to everybody.

And a final plea please. Year 5 and 6 will be running a ‘filled sweetie jar’ stall at the fete, please can we have donations for our stall, they should come to either the J5 or J6 classroom – many thanks.
