Summer Term Newsletter Friday 7th July

So much to write about… A wonderful ‘whole school’ concert on Wednesday and then a fabulous Prep School sports and Prizegiving today, plus activity day for years 7, 8, 9, and 10. With Year 11 departing for the Leavers’ Trip!

If you missed the summer concert then you missed a wonderful event which shows why Bowbrook is an ‘oasis’ amid the turmoil that surrounds us in the state system in particular. Supportive and inclusive yes, form Nursery to Year 10 but also excellence abounded. Some incredibly talented performers. My thanks to ALL involved in that summer concert. It is one of the highlights of the year. As I say if you missed it, you missed out!

Jean Bayliss Endeavour Plate

Mrs Bayliss was a past parent and Junior School teacher at Bowbrook.  This plate is awarded for contributing with the most effort and enthusiasm in all areas to life in the Prep School. In recognition of his hard work and great progress and effort in all areas of Prep School life.

The Allen Cup for Academic Excellence: This is awarded to the pupil who has displayed outstanding Academic Excellence throughout the year. For her continuous, outstanding academic achievements.

Is Awarded to: Aisha Haque 

The Iain Byland Award: A former teacher and fondly remembered colleague, Iain was a true gentleman and a caring & highly professional teacher. The Iain Byland Awarded is awarded to the pupil who has made the most significant contribution to life in the Prep School, throughout their time:  For her significant contribution to the Prep School, from starring in school plays, performing in Bowbrook’s Got Talent and leading the Prep School Council to regularly representing the school in sporting fixtures.   Additionally for her well-deserved commendation for the ISA Maxwell Award which recognises outstanding Year 6 pupils and their contribution to their school.

Paris trip 2024:

Many thanks to parents and pupils for returning permission slips and deposits so quickly. We have now filled our allocated accommodation so unfortunately cannot take any more deposits. PGL have put us on first notice of any cancellations by other groups so I will let parents know if any more places become available.

Activity day:

Year 11 Leavers are in Malvern for three days.

Years 9 & 10 went to Drayton Manor

Year 8 to the Aztec water sports centre.

Reports to follow. But I ‘expect’ all pupils to have been on their best behaviour and I also expect them to say thank you to their teachers, either in person or by e-mail or card on Monday – if they didn’t do it getting off the bus!

Sports Photos

On Monday, we have a photographer coming into school to take photos of all students who have represented the school in various sporting team throughout the year, as well as to take house and class photos. 

Can all students please ensure that they bring in their FULL (and clean) PE and games kits on Monday to include, rugby games tops, long socks for rugby, football and hockey, white Bowbrook polos, blue Bowbrook shorts, white socks, boots and trainers.

If you won a medal at any event this year, can you also bring that with you.

Along with this kit list there will be no jewellery in any photos and long hair will need to be tied back.

Photos should be available to purchase at the senior school sports day on Wednesday.

School Sporting Events

We have finished the week with a wonderful prep school sports day, with all students in the prep school competing in a variety of athletics events. Everyone competed in an exceptional manner showing strong athletics abilities, a competitive desire to cross the finish line first, and a huge amount of sportsmanship amongst each other.

Thank you to all parents for your support (and participation) throughout the day, to all the staff who supported the running of the event, and to the grounds staff who, as always, have ensured the track is in immaculate condition.

Looking ahead to next week…

House meetings are on Monday, Lesson 1, for all students to put themselves forward for house matches. 

House cricket will be on Tuesday, Starting at 09:00 and finishing at 15:45. The House cricket final will start around 1:30 at Peopleton CC. On the same day House Rounders will begin at 1.00 on the school field.

On Wednesday we have the middle and senior school sports day. 

Please note a change in timings for this event. The javelin event will start at 09:15 on Wednesday morning with the other events due to take place from 10:00 until 12:30. All track and field events will be taking place, at the same time.

For all events this week, students are expected to be in full PE kit, to include White socks (also remembering games kit from the autumn term for photos).

Students should check the PE notice board to see if they are involved in fixtures.

U11’s Cricket vs Heathfield
The U11 cricket match between Bowbrook and Heathfield took place on 3rd July at Heathfield School.

Bowbrook started their innings with confidence, determined to set a challenging target for Heathfield. Despite losing some early wickets, Bowbrook managed to score a commendable total of 228 runs. The stand out performer for Bowbrook was Sam B, who showcased excellent batting skills and hit 2 fours in his 2 overs. His contribution played a crucial role in their team’s total.

In response, Heathfield came in to chase the target set by Bowbrook. They began steadily and gradually gained momentum. The star batter for Heathfield was Odhran, who played aggressively and scored 15 runs, including an impressive six and two boundaries.

The fielding efforts displayed by both teams were praiseworthy. Bowbrook’s Luke D and Sam B made remarkable catches, adding pressure to the Heathfield batsmen and limiting their scoring opportunities. Jonah H and Alfie B also stood out by gaining a wicket each through run-outs and stumpings.
As the match progressed, Heathfield maintained their composure and successfully chased down Bowbrook’s total. Their final score stood at 241 runs, showing great determination and skill. Both teams displayed remarkable sportsmanship throughout the match, competing fiercely while respecting each other’s efforts.

Bowbrook Borrows the Moon:

Bowbrook Science Department was excited to receive an interesting package this week in the form of a loan from the Science and Technology Facilities Council. This special delivery contained samples obtained from the Moon during the six lunar missions that took place during the 1970s. The package also contained a range of meteorites and rare Earth rocks.
