Summer Term Newsletter Friday 30th June

It has been a busy and ‘focused’ week as Years 7 – 11 have worked their way steadily through their end of year exams. Some have coped better than others, some have performed better than others. Feeling stressed or anxious over exams is ‘normal’ and feeling a sense of relief and of achievement when coming out the other side is also normal. By ‘practising’ these skills we hope that the GCSEs will be less daunting and students will have developed a self confidence and resilience that we ‘can’ do this!

Next week they will get feedback and ‘results’ depending on their year group. If you are able to say ‘I tried my best’ and ‘I revised well’ then that is all we can ask of you. We will help you improve we will guide you to improvement…it is not the end of the world. It is a learning experience.

So – we now look forward to the Summer Concert. To Prep School’s Sports Day and Prizegiving, to Activity day and to many other very important ‘learning experiences’ that will help us to provide closure to the end of the academic year.

Summer Concert Wednesday 5^th July:

We are very much looking forward to welcoming you to our Summer Concert on Wednesday next week at 7pm to celebrate our school musicians and our school community. All students from N/R to Year 9 as well as selected Year 10 students are involved and participating and are expected to attend.

As usual, Infant Choir will perform at the very beginning of the concert so that they can then be taken home; additional information for Infant parents will be going home soon.

Students are expected to arrive in School Uniform no later than 6.40 to take their seats. Instrumentalists should arrive at 6.20 to tune their instruments. Thank you for your support and we look forward to seeing you there.

Final Rehearsal: please note that performers will be involved in a final rehearsal in the marquee during the day on Wednesday. Please could you remind students that they are to bring with them their instrument and their music for their performance. A copy of the rehearsal schedule has been shared with all teachers and tutors.

Extra-Curricular – Please note that music extra-curricular clubs will finish for the term after the Summer Concert.

Junior Samba Drumming Club – Mr Booton sends his apologies as he was unable to run Samba Drumming Club on Thursday. Please note that there will be a catch-up session this Monday from 3.30 – 4pm in the marquee. Thank you.

Instrumental – Mr Jones will also be holding catch-up guitar lessons on Thursday 6^th July.

Stars of the Week: Tomas Duckworth, Charlie Rimmel and Joshua Preston in M8 are deserving of this award this week. All three gave a superb ‘rockin’ performance of ‘Rebel Rebel’ by David Bowie as part of their ‘Pop/Rock’ Band performance assessment. Very well done to all three boys!

News from the Prep School:

Thank you to Year 4, Miss Goodwin and Mrs A for our assembly this week all about keeping safe over the summer holidays. Our Star Pupils for this week are:

N – Max Taylor for being kind and friendly.

R – Eretria Bolt for good reading.

I1 – George Peacop for fantastic Time Table Rockstars.

I2 – Indigo Hudson – Page for an excellent contribution to PSHE.

J3 – Aadil Haque for being enthusiastic in lessons.

J4 – Leo Maciej – Clarke for amazing independent English work.

J5 – Penny Heaume for a great effort in writing and performing scripts.

6NS – Max Brackenbury for a much-improved mindset towards his learning.

6SR – Joshua Smith for being a kind and thoughtful friend.

We also awarded Beau Clarke and Sienna Comens their ‘Pen Licenses ‘ and Luca Carmine and Bobby Rushton received certificates for achieving their Accelerated Reader targets.

Outside of school, we congratulated Pippa- Jo Houston for yet more first place show jumping rosettes and Bobby Rushton who has gained his Bronze Rookie Lifeguard award. Congratulations to everybody this week.

On Friday afternoon we welcomed George and Olly’s Grandad – Mr. Peacop – into the department to lead the pupils in two sessions, showing the pupils his cartoon, characterisation skills. Mr. Peacop was a former cartoonist for The Times newspaper and the pupils loved having him visit.

Next week, we look forward to welcoming you into school on Wednesday evening for our summer concert. Also, on Thursday afternoon a reminder to Year 6 parents, you are invited to our ‘leavers assembly’ in the school hall at 2.50pm. Then finally, on Friday everybody is welcome to join us at our Prep Sports Day, commencing at 10.00am followed by a picnic lunch and Prize Giving from 1.30pm.

Borrow The Moon:

Next week we will have actual pieces of the Moon and other various ‘’space rocks’ and meteorites in school. Mrs Partington has arranged for genuine Moon rocks to be in school for pupils to look at identify. Classes on a rota basis will have a chance to sort and solve various moon/space-based rocks and activities. How exciting!

PE and Games:

No PE news this week due to school exams – just 2 team sheets for next week.
