Tectonic cakes by Year 8JM!

Next Week is School Exams for Years 7 - 10

So far this week in addition to the ‘revision cards’ and ‘mind maps’ I have seen revision ‘speed dating’ and pupils ‘drawing’ all over the desks (in white board pens but collaboratively producing topic maps I might add!) I have heard ‘chanting’ of mnemonics and seen great use of BBC Bitesize on line and also Tectonic cakes! (see pictures) There are lots of different ways to revise…
School Exam week next week is to be kept in perspective and was the subject of my assembly on Tuesday… Depending on your Year group. Nerves or a sense of anxiety is perfectly normal and can actually aid performance! So… be well prepared and try your hardest. Good luck to all!

School Fete

Thank you to all the Parents and Parents’ Committee that devoted much of Friday to getting us ready for the School Fete… It was a lovely atmosphere in great weather and I am sure we will have raised lots of money too! Thank you to all the staff too who manned the ‘class stalls’ and gave of their time and energy… Even in the stocks!
Thank you to you all for your generous contributions and support on the day. We await a total … But it was a super afternoon regardless!

Music News

Date for your Diary: Our Summer Concert this year will be held on Wednesday 3rd July in the marquee.

Please note that all students from Reception to Year 9 are involved as well as approximately half of Year 10 who are performing or volunteering. It is expected that these students attend and contribute to our school community.
If there is a reason that your child cannot attend, please excuse in writing to Mr Allen, thank you.

Our musicians have been practising very hard over many months to share their music with you. Thank you for your support.

Jazz Group Mrs Hughes our Saxophone, Clarinet and Flute teacher has been very impressed with Jazz Group this week. I was lucky to be able to listen to them this week; what a superb sound the group are making. Well done to Albert Blinston, Ellen Bicknell and Tom Duckworth!
Upper Chamber Choir Notice: Please note that there will be an extended rehearsal next week on Wednesday after school until 5.30 for those who are able to stay that little bit longer, thank you.
Stars of the Week: Year 8 for their ‘pop band’ performances this week. The year group have been forming their own bands and practising for many weeks to give a cover version of their chosen pop song’ working out chord progressions and riffs of their own accord They gave some superb performances and managed their nerves brilliantly -well done Year 8
Thank you
Mrs Izod

Yr 7/8 Maths Spread

On Wednesday afternoon, Miss Brookes and Mrs Ford took twelve students, six from Year 7 and six from Year 8 to the Maths Spread competition held at Worcester Arena and sponsored by the Advanced Mathematics Support Programme.

This was a fun educational challenge for Year 7 and Year 8 students which tested problem-solving and teamwork skills whilst working on a miscellany of problems. There were several rounds requiring different skills and strategies for success.
Although we didn’t win, the teams scored highly and even won one section of the competition and we had a great afternoon solving problems.
Thank you to all students who took part.

News from the Prep School

This week Year 6 re-visited Lower Norchard farm in Peopleton where they had an afternoon pond dipping and putting their skills of identification to the test. Thank you Mrs Wood (Ayla’s Mum) for organising this fun-filled activity.
Year 6 also took our Prep assembly this week where they told the rest of the school all about their exciting adventures at their residential trip in Cuffley. Our Star Pupils this week are:
  • N/R - Max Taylor for super work in phonics.
  • I1 - Jonas Ford for super maths in his summer assessment.
  • I2 - Elena Svancara for a wonderful Venetian painting.
  • J3 - Harry Stephens for great teamwork in the classroom.
  • J4 - Aadil Haque for a great attitude to his work.
  • J5 - Oscar Birch for digging deep and overcoming challenges.
  • J6 - Luke Drakeley for an improved positive attitude to his learning.
We also commended Pippa-Jo Houston (I2) on gaining a ‘placed’ rosette at the Bolesworth International Summer Festival last weekend – very well done. We were also very proud to hear of Rory Jackson’s (J4) good news, he has been signed for the development academy linked to Aston Villa as a goalkeeper.

Next Thursday, our Infant department are having an Italian themed day and J3 have their Viking day – let’s hope the Long Boat they have been busy constructing gets across the swimming pool!
Juniors, please remember to bring in your consent slips for our end-of-year trip to West Midlands Safari next week.
Enjoy the sunshine this weekend.
Mrs. Ridge

To finish where I started… Revise and prepare yes. Nerves are good. Do your best … We can then be proud of you. Exam week will pass and we will have much to look forwards to at the end of term!
