Summer Term 2021 – E news 23.04.21
It is great to be back in school and to see the pupils enjoying this incredible weather.
It is also good to see an increasingly busy weekly diary which includes the return of
school fixtures (see PE Dept news later).
As part of our ongoing partnership with the University of Worcester, I would like to
welcome Miss Pritchard and Miss Wright to the Prep School. Both are final year
students from the University and will be with us for the next eight weeks. I wish them
well in their teaching practice. I am sure all members of the Prep School community
will make them feel very welcome.

Next Friday, 30th, is the rags 2 riches collection day. All donations need to be in by
the music room for a drop off.
News from the art room. Elephant News!
A huge thank you to everyone for the elephant designs and congratulations to
Georgie A of Year 10 on her winning design. We will get going on this very soon. Mr
Allen was really impressed with the quality of the designs and has suggested that we
create some of our own art work based on the other designs submitted. I do have
some paper copies of the elephant designs but some were sent via emails.
Please send us any remaining paper copies into school so that we can form a
display.
We are still keen to have any recycling plastic objects/containers in grey or white for
one of our students.
Thank you so much if you have sent something in already. Items can be left on the
shelf at the bottom of the art stairs.

Worcester Bus:
There are multiple sets of temporary traffic lights in central Worcester causing
carnage to the traffic.
I’m unsure how long they are in place for but please be patient if the coach is a few
minutes late.

Music E news
Welcome back! We are excited to be able to offer a reduced extra-curricular
timetable this term where social distancing can take place. Please see times and
days below:
Tuesday: String Group 1.00 in the Main Hall with Mrs Corton (charged activity)
Wednesday: Recorder Club 12.30 in the Music Room with Miss Smith
Thursday: Jazz Group 12.30 in the Music Room with Mrs Hughes (charged activity)
Friday: Prep School Ukulele Club 12.30 in the Music Room with Mr Jones and Mrs
Izod
(charged activity)
Please note that children will be required to bring their own recorder with them to
Recorder Club this term. These can be easily purchased on Amazon. Students do
not need to have had played the recorder before. Where possible, it would be helpful
if students could bring their own ukulele to Ukulele Club on a Friday. We do have
some spare which will have been sanitized if children wish to borrow one. Please
return the Ukulele Club letter reply slip to me if you haven’t done so already if your
child is planning to attend, many thanks.
Instrumental lessons will also begin next week. All children should have now taken
home their individual timetable. Please let me know if there are any queries. All
notice boards are up to date and children can easily see their time should they forget
their timetable. As usual, it would be helpful if you could encourage your child to note
down the date and time of each lesson in their diary for this term. It is the
responsibility of the students in the middle and senior school to make their own way
to their lesson. We also encourage students in J6 to begin to be independent in
making their own way to their lesson. Thank you for support in this. Please be aware
that there are several catch up lessons scheduled with Mrs Corton on a Wednesday.
These have been added to the Monday timetable. Mrs Corton will also be catching
up upon missed Tuesday lessons from last term when there is an appropriate time
slot.
We are very excited to be able to offer our students the opportunity to join together
again to make music. If your child is interested in beginning a new instrument, then
please ask Mrs Hodgson in reception or myself for an ‘Instrumental Letter’. A polite
reminder that at least half a terms’ notice it required on all instrumental lessons.

PE Department News.
The Return of fixtures!
We are pleased to announce that we will begin some fixtures this term including
rounders, cricket, football and athletics and will be doing so following the sport’s
governing body’s protocol as well as our own system of controls to keep it as safe as
possible. With regular testing and reducing cases we feel we can manage this.
However, if you are not comfortable with your child participating of they are selected
then we completely understand and you can just let us know by writing a note in your
child’s diary or e-mailing the member of staff who posted the team sheet.
Some points of note:
We will have hired some additional toilet facilities on the field for any visitors to avoid
the necessity for sharing with our students.
Initially, parents cannot attend matches to prevent increased numbers of people on
both our site and those we visit. This will be reviewed during the course of the term.
Teams will only be selected from within our identified bubbles.
We will check the practises and protocols of other schools before we visit so we are
confident that they are doing all they can to reduce risk.
Students travelling away will need a face mask which must be worn on the mini-bus.
For all matches students should bring their own water bottles and hand sanitiser.
Team sheets will be posted a week in advance of matches and put on the e-news.
Anyone not able to play MUST give written (note in diary or e-mail to teacher) if they
are unable to play in good time (at least 24hours) before a fixture.
Clubs and Activities
There are a number of lunchtime sports clubs which will resume next week. Cricket
nets to hone batting and bowling skills, rounders and athletics training sessions are
all included on the clubs and activities list and students are encouraged to attend.
Results:
House Football
On our first day back after the Easter break the delayed junior house football
competition took place. On a glorious sunny day all four houses played 3 rounds of
10 minute games. The action was thick and fast and there was some great teamwork
being demonstrated. The scoring system was 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw and 0
for a loss. After an hour of fast paced football the results were…….
- Trafalgar with 7 points
- Hastings with 4 points
- Blenheim with 2 points
- Trafalgar with 2 points
With these results added to the senior competition held last term the final results are
as follows…
- 1st Waterloo with a combined score of 11
- 2nd Hastings with a combined score of 10
- 3rd Trafalgar with a combined score of 7
- 4th Blenheim with a combined score of 5
Well done to Waterloo and to all who took part.
