Summer Term 2021 – E news 11.06.21

Please find attached an important ‘run down’ to the end o fTerm. Obviously dates and events on here such as sports days, Prize-giving, Speech day are all subject to the Government’s announcement on the further easing of restrictions. Our hope is, though some events may be ‘reduced’ in participation and scale, that the end of term will be as near to normal as we can make it for all the pupils and especially for our Year 11 leavers.

Summer Camp:
The flyer went out this week to Years 1 – 7 to give Bowbrook parents a head start in the
booking process, although parents from outside school have already been phoning wanting
to book. Again the day camp is reduced in scale to a maximum of 35 children per week in
three groups to allow for social distancing. The four weeks has already started to book up.
Booking this year is automated and can be found on the School’s Website – Homepage.

Exam Week Years 7 – 10:
w.c 21st June will give pupils the opportunity to practice their exam technique in formal exam conditions. These should be taken seriously but wih context. Revision should be given due consideration but again should not create undue anxiety. Staff know the pupils as individuals and know their abilities. This is an important process in which pupils prepare to meet ‘stress’ which is a perfectly normal reaction to exams, they learn to face it, overcome it and move forward so that next year the process will be that much more familier.

News from the Prep School
An exciting start to the new half term with the arrival of our fabulous castle in the Infant play area – the children have had so much fun this week playing on it.

Can we remind parents to send children into school with sunscreen already applied please
and everyone should have a sun hat to be worn at break times?

5HR – Isabella Banham, for an outstanding attitude, resilience and determination every
week.
6SR – Oliver Sivell, for settling in so quickly to life at Bowbrook.

EGG-CITING NEWS FROM INFANTS…!!!

After our return from half term the Infants had 3 super surprises!

Firstly, we discovered that the vegetable garden had sprouted – we came back to hoards of
beetroot, radish and rocket!

Secondly, we have 3 beautiful, fluffy chicks (thanks to Harriet’s parents) and one further egg
in the incubator. The children are very excited and will be naming them soon!

Finally, to our astonishment, when we arrived at school on Monday, we found an enormous,
wooden castle in our playground! Huge thanks to both Mr Hunt and Mr Brand for secretly
constructing this magnificent fortress over half term. The children and staff were all so
impressed and appreciative.

Music enews
Prep school praise – Miss Smith would like to praise music students in the prep school who
have really impressed this term. Her music stars are:

Super music making everyone; well done!

I would like to praise Nathan Sanderson this week in M8SR for his focussed and disciplined
composition work. Nathan went above and beyond to return at lunch time of his own accord to continue creating his ideas. Well done Nathan.

Instrumental: Please be aware that there have been a few amendments to the instrumental
timetables this week to accommodate middle and senior school exam week. Please look out
for amendment timetables which have now been given students. Thank you.

Apologies, Mrs Corton has been unwell this week. She will, of course, make up any lessons
missed. Mr Jones was unfortunately unable to teach on Friday afternoon of this week. Again,
of course, lessons will be made up. Thank you for your patience.

Summer Concert 30th June: Please look out for updated information regarding our summer
concert which we hope to share with you next week. We are hoping to at least, be able to
invite parents of soloists and those who are performing in an ensemble; Recorder Club,
Ukulele Club, Jazz Group, String and Class J5 as well as invited soloists. Thank you.

PE Department News
Results

U13 Cricket
The U13’s travelled to Heathfield and came away with a draw. We had been quite ambitious
in trying to get the full 20 overs into a time limit set by pickups and didn’t quite mange the full complement, however, we see them again next week for the sequel! They gained 112 runs and had 2 particularly strong batters but James Cooley, Josh Laws, Alex McMillan and Ed Clarke had particularly good bowling spells. Myles and Sid took 2 excellent catches to tale
important wickets.

Our batting started somewhat slowly…with 3 early wickets taken by a particular fast and
accurate county bowler! Thankfully Tom Grant settled the ship and got 19 runs not out but
also forged a good partnership with Alex McMillan Ed Clarke. We finished on 69 runs but as
we were unable to complete the overs a draw was declared. We look forward to the next
instalment.
