Prep Speech Day and Prize Giving 2021
It was lovely to welcome Parents back to sports day. Excellent performances,
fantastic sportsmanship and a great atmosphere. My congratulations to all. It was
Hastings who came out on top in the end. Well done all competitors.

So to the Prize giving:
Not everyone can win a prize; if everyone won a prize it would devalue the prizes!

Some will be disappointed but again I feel that this is something which ‘political
correctness’ has artificially protected a generation of children from. I think it is good if
you are disappointed because it means you care and that again is good but this needs
to be put into context. It is not the end of the world. It is something you can conquer
and that builds character. We cannot all ‘win’ but we can all try our hardest.

Some today will be chosen for prizes, but ALL pupils are valued ALL are recognised.
Form teachers, assembly commendations, smiley faces charts, we have our end of
term assemblies coming up. I am sure over the year that ALL have been recognised
and valued at some point.

The Kindness Cup

Harriett was lucky enough to be presented the cup by Mrs Shepherd herself who
was re-visiting the school. Parentt and teacher for 30 years it was lovely to see her
again. She commented on how smart and well behaved all the pupils were!

In Other News:
News from the Prep School:
Well, what a super end to the week. All pupils should be commended for their
exemplary behaviour and conduct at this morning’s Sports Day. The sun shone down
us, and everybody participated in events. A big thank you to the PE department for
the smooth organisation of this event. Prize Giving was once again a wonderful
celebration at the end of what can only be described as an ‘unusual year.’
Many congratulations to Form Prize winners and winners of the silverware.

This week Prep teachers have selected the following final Star Pupils for this
academic year:

N/R – Ariel Lewsey – for trying hard to think of other children’s feelings.
I1/2 – Jack Jones – for being such an enthusiastic learner and for being a thoughtful
and kind member of our class.
J3 – George Hudson-Page – for working exceptionally hard in all his lessons
4SA – Penny Mills – for really trying hard with her Maths work this week.
4SWn – Rosie Styles, – for working super hard in English, writing a fantastic
biography.
5HR – Isabella Banham – for an exceptional term and showing maturity every
week.
6SR – Erin Grant – for being a thoughtful and mature member of the class.
Well done everybody.

And so, to the final week! Our Infants are visiting Smite Farm on Monday and our
Juniors are off to the West Midlands Safari Park on Wednesday. Both trips will
hopefully be a wonderful end to this year. Please remember that School finishes on
Thursday at 12.00 p.m.

Music enews:
Summer Concert: Congratulations to all of our pupils who took part in our Summer
Concert on Wednesday. It was a joy to hear their music live again and to celebrate
their achievements. The inclusivity of the concert meant that children in Reception all
the way to Year 11 were able to join together as a school and we were lucky to hear
some of our GCSE musicians perform for the last time. Well done to all of our
musicians! I would also like to thank our peripatetic staff; Mrs Hughes, Mr Booton,
Mrs Corton, Mrs Watkins and Mr Jones for supporting the children with their solo and
ensemble work and for their efforts throughout such a challenging year.

Instrumental: Please note that instrumental lessons will begin again on Monday 6th
September; the first full week back. Timetables will be distributed during the week
before. Please may I remind you that a terms’ notice is required to finish instrumental
lessons.
Congratulations again to all of our musicians this week.

Art E-news:
Well done and thank you to Year 8 who have been working on a collaborative piece
of art. We are decorating a huge 3m x 2m banner which will be displayed at
Perdiswall Park. The banner display celebrates our beautiful inland waterways.

IWA Festival of Water 2021 28th – 30th August 2021 Join us at IWA Festival of
Water for a bank holiday weekend of fun for all who love spending time by the water.
A full programme of music and dance will take place in IWA’s 75th Anniversary year.
And where better to have the celebrations than on the waterway where it all began,
the Worcester & Birmingham Canal? Entry to the festival and car parking is free.

The Elephant Trail:
At least 30 elephant sculptures will form the free art trail – running from Monday, July
12 to Sunday, September 5 2021.

Every summer, Worcester streets become populated with beautifully decorated
sculptures. This scheme raises money for St Richard’s Hospice. In 2019, there were
baby giraffes. This year promises to be an exciting display with elephants large and
small. I hope that our families will go to see the LITTLE BOWBROOK ELLIE and
enjoy the exhibition.

Thank you again to year 10 who gave up their free time to decorate the Ellie and to
Georgie for her chosen design.

Projects for September include some more collaborative work based on elephants.
There were lots of wonderful entires when we chose our elephant design and we will
be creating some little elephant plaques to decorate the school using some of the
entry designs.

Summer Art Competition:
Every summer, we launch an art competition and over the years the entries are
gradually growing. I would love to see as many as possible of our pupils taking part.
The theme this year is WILD. You can interpret this title in any way. Entries can be
any size and made in any materials. Please see the attached poster for more details.
Just bring your artwork back to school in the first week of the Autumn Term with you
name and form attached.

Talking of Art:
A Year 10 ‘entrepreneur’ has asked to promote her Art business and she is going to
be taking part in an Art/Craft event which is part of this year’s Worcester Festival.

Her work is sold via Facebook/Instagram under the name – Art_by_hollyyy
She will be posting about the event on these pages. Please support if you can.
