National football Silver medal!
Congratulations to the U16 football team who won the silver medal at the National ISA football tournament this week. An amazing result against so many bigger schools. Very well done!
Parents’ Committee: Hot Chocolate for All!
My thanks to the parent committee for this afternoon’s treat; hot chocolate and a cookie for all on a cold Friday afternoon – lovely…Also a display of second hand uniform. A lovely way to end the week.

Mug of Magnificence:
Congratulations to all students who were nominated this week by staff for a variety of reasons. It is wonderful to read about good manners, behaviour, thoughtfulness, consideration, compassion, endeavour and general kindness towards one another in the school community. Harry Carter was selected by our random name generator in assembly and he cashed in his voucher and enjoyed a piping hot cup of hot chocolate, whipped cream, marshmallows and chocolate bar at break on Thursday!
French Exchange Hosts:
Thank you – my ‘appeal’ seemed to work last week and Mr Whittingham reports that we now have enough hosts for the Frech pupils. We do have two sharing so one more would be really useful, we also have one member of staff from Bethune college to host if anyone would like to offer?
Lost Property:
The amount of pupils looking for lost items of uniform seems to be ever increasing.
All named items of clothing that are handed in as lost property are re-united with their rightful owners – however the majority of items are not named which makes it nigh on impossible.
Please can all parents check all uniform this weekend. Make sure your child has brought home their own items and only their own items. Most importantly make sure all items are correctly & obviously named.
Should you find your child has inadvertently picked up an extra garment, (& we do recognise this can easily happen) please return it to the school office so that we can try to get it to its rightful owner.
News from the Prep School
Thank you to Mr Mills for leading our assembly this week. He has set all of the Prep pupils a challenge to perform an act of kindness.
During assembly we also commended Elena Svancara (I1 /2) for gaining her yellow stripe in Tae Kwon Do and Pippa – Jo Houston (I1/2) for her two horse riding trophies and a rosette.
The following pupils have reached their Accelerated Reader targets and also received certificates: Will Rush, Leo Maciej – Clarke, Jack Jones, Max Brackenbury and Rosalie Wilkinson.
Our Star Pupils for the week are:

Music Enews
Curriculum: Our J5 musicians have been making some marvellous music with their Ukuleles this half term. They have progressed to now playing three different chords and have been working hard to make smooth transitions between them. I have seen some serious concentration faces this week. Well done J5!
Year 8 have been composing their Blues lyrics this week; applying the traditional three phrase stanza structure as part of their Blues music topic. Lucy Kirkham and Cameron Whiley have shown confidence; solo singing their lyrics to the rest of their class. A very supportive and encouraging class 8MF were most impressed. Very well done to both!
Thank you again to Tom Land again this week in Year 10 for accompanying the school hymn in assembly at the piano. This is not an easy task and Tom is embracing the challenge with a great attitude. Thank you and well done Tom!

Star of the Week: Lucy Kirkham in M8MF for showing great independence and perseverance in learning her Xylophone part for Orchestra in one week and for singing her Blues lyrics to her class. Very well done Lucy!

PE Department News
Weekly round up
This week has been a very busy week for the PE department and for all children across the school. On Tuesday the U13’s kicked off their football season with a fixture away to Tettenhall where they learnt a lot about game management, which is hard to learn from training and playing against the same people in school, and are going to take the lessons learnt into this week’s home fixture against Bredon.
On Wednesday, we had the ISA Midlands Cross Country championships held in Bedstone. A strong squad of 33 runners from Bowbrook made the journey and were greeted at Bedstone by a tough, undulating course, that had many surprises for runners around every turn. Reports back to school all mention how the students of Bowbrook gave their all in their races and challenged themselves to finish in as high a place as they could. Final results are currently being correlated by the competition organisers and these will be shared with you all.
Attention turns to Thursday, where our U16 boys football team travelled to Nottingham to participate in the ISA National 6 a side football competition. Finishing strongly in their group, winning 3 out of 4 matches, the team progressed onto the knockout stages of the competition. Successful in the semi final stages the team made it all the way to the final where they finished with an incredible 2nd place result in a National ISA competition.
Conversations that were overheard between the students on Friday, demonstrate how proud the boys were of their achievement and we couldn’t be prouder of them for their efforts in the competition.

Today, we have our U14’s girls netball squad making the journey to Loughborough to take part in the ISA Midlands competition. Further details on their competition will be in next week’s e-news but we hope they have all had a fantastic experience and we look forward to further good news of Bowbrook’s sporting prowess next week.
U16’s Netball vs Dodderhill
Congratulations to the 7 girls that took part in the U16 netball fixture against Dodderhill. Everyone worked so hard and grew in confidence throughout the game. In the 1st quarter Dodderhill led 11:6, increasing the lead to 18:11 at the end of the 2nd quarter. Each player worked hard to mark their player and Laura Harding did some great interceptions on the centre pass.
Sofia and Frankie worked well together in attack, scoring some great shots. In the 3rd quarter Sofia moved to Goalkeeper and helped the defence keep the ball out of the net. At the end of the 3rd quarter Bowbrook had narrowed the score line to 20:12. Everyone displayed fantastic perseverance and determination, never giving up. This fortitude was rewarded in the final quarter which Bowbrook won, making the final score 13:20 to Dodderhill.
This was the first game together for the team and it was great to see the support they gave one another and their strength throughout the game. Well done to Sofia on winning player of the match.
