Spring Term Newsletter 06.01.2023

Welcome Back! 

Happy New year to all pupils, parents, staff and families. I hope 2023 will be happy and healthy for you all. 

I will start by saying ‘thank you’ to all parents and pupils who gave gifts and cards at the end of last term. It really is appreciated not just by me but by all the staff, so thank you!

Mock GCSEs: 

Year 11 began the term on Tuesday and have now completed their mock GCSEs. We will be feeding back to them both their mock grades and their ‘tracking towards’ grades for the summer in their Parents’ Evening on Thursday 19th January. 4.15 – 6.30 p.m. in the Schofield Block. 

Open Morning: 

It is then a quick turnaround for our Open Morning on Friday 20th. If any parents are available and willing to show prospective parents round, then please do get in touch or if you just wish to help with refreshments on the day and chat informally to our guests? 

Please promote this Open Morning to friends and family. We will be on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram so please do re-tweet/re-post. Every little helps! 

National Runners Up: 

ISA National Art – Textiles. Congratulations to Laura Harding, Grace Wakley and Maya Keys. Their Kimono design won first place at the Midlands ISA art and went on to the national exhibition in Nottingham where they achieved a second place. Well done indeed! 

Parents’ Committee: 

My thanks to the parents’ Committee for a lovely Christmas fayre to end the term. I gather they have some new events coming up and also are keen to explore potential fundraising and also expenditure…to ‘enhance and extend’ the experiences for all children at Bowbrook. 

The next Parents Committee meeting at 2:45pm on Thursday 19th January for anyone who wishes to attend. All parents are welcome. 

We are a ‘nut free’ School.  

Polite reminder to all students: 

We are a ‘nut free’ school and have some students with severe allergies. With this in mind, please could you monitor the contents of ‘snack’ and lunch box content and ensure the items do not contain any trace of nuts. 

A notification of this has also been issued to students and stuck in their planners so they are also mindful and aware! 

Music Enews: 

Welcome back! A Happy New Year to you all.  

Instrumental Lessons are beginning next week. Timetables have been distributed today; please let me know if your child has not received theirs. As always, please support your child in ensuring that they have noted down in their planners the dates and times of each lesson for each week – thank you. We are also pleased to share with you that Mr Jones will be returning next week after some time away. Thank you for your patience and understanding during this period. Ukulele Group lessons will therefore begin on Wednesday next week; please see individual timetables which have gone home with the children.  

Extra-Curricular will not begin until Monday 16th January. This will include ‘Rock Band’ on a Wednesday after School which will be led my Mr Jones and supported by Mr Bell.  

Other News: Congratulations to Albert Blinston in Year 9 who has passed his Grade 5 Clarinet exam with Distinction. This is an outstanding achievement; very well done Albert! You will have seen Albert perform with Orchestra and Jazz Group over the past few years.

Clubs and Activities for the Spring Term. 

Mr Swain’s list of clubs and extra-curricular activities is attached. We like to try to encourage all pupils to do at least one or two clubs in their lunchtimes or after school. Other clubs may be added as the term goes on and the weather improves, we will keep parents updated.

Please attached team sheets for next week’s sporting commitments. Good luck to all our runners in the District Schools Cross Country at Prince Henry’s High School. 

Pictured below from last term’s House Cross Country are the 1,2,3 from the Middles and Seniors and then the first three Girls home. It was a close-run thing and a great afternoon of endeavour!
