It’s been all about ‘the Arts’ this week…

Congratulations to Oliver Andrews M9, Bobby Rushton J6, Joshua Laws M9 and Peter Rushton M9 who all gave a superb performance in Pershore’s PODYS’ production of ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’ at the weekend. Mrs Izod reports it was a thoroughly enjoyable evening and that all four students were superb! Very well done indeed.

Arts News:

On Tuesday and Thursday of this week, we celebrated the achievements and the shared experiences of Arts Week in our two school assemblies. Many pupils will have returned home with a certificate for their participation in our many competitions and activities.

We also looked at some film and photos of the week which reminded us of the diverse experiences we had.

We are very proud of the way our pupils embraced every experience with such energy, good humour and enthusiasm. The adults visiting our school for the day were all so very impressed with the welcome they received and the brilliant responses of the students.

Don’t forget that parents also have the chance to participate this year. Our lives are so busy, I can imagine that finding time for art is quite a challenge, but if you do decide to have a go, there is still time to send a little 10cm X 10cm creation of your own for our wall.

The ones we have been sent are so thoughtful and personal. Thank you so much for these. The poster with explanation and instructions is attached on today’s e- news.

My thanks again to all pupils, parents and staff for making the week so rewarding.

Mrs Mellor.

If you would like to pop into the hall to see some of the displays then parents are most welcome. There is a whole range of creativity on display!

Music News:

Extra-Curricular: Please note that music extra-curricular has now started again and we look forward to seeing full attendance next week.

Many apologies for those who were affected by the cancellation of Rock Band on Wednesday; I am hopeful that we will be up and running next week.

Instrumental Lessons: Lessons have also begun this week. Please let me know if you child has not received their timetable.

Music Star of the Week: Lottie Pennington-Fairchild and Lucy Kirkham in 8MF for their extended composition work, vocals and improvisation during their Blues Composition lesson. Very well done girls.

Thank you
Mrs Izod

U11’s Football vs St John’s

Sport at Bowbrook 2023

On Tuesday, our U11’s played their first 9 a side fixture against St John’s Middle School from Bromsgrove. The team showed their intent from the first whistle, trying to move the ball around the team and work their way into the opposition half, but they were caught taking too many touches and allowed a physical team to force themselves onto the ball.

Huge amount of efforts were spent defending throughout the first half with goalkeeper Alfie, making some very impressive saves from shots all angles.

As the game progressed, and the team grew with experience of the 9 a side game, time was spent pushing the ball into the opposition half and playing a longer game, in attempt to catch St John’s on the breakaway. Some great positional play from Josh, and running with the ball from Charlie, got the Bowbrook team into the box, but chances were slim and attacks snuffed out by the opposition quickly.

The end of the game came with a defeat but lots of lessons learnt on using a larger pitch and playing 9 a side football.

U10’s Netball vs Heathfield

Netball at Bowbrook 2023

The U10 netball team added another win to their streak with an 8-4 victory over Heathfield on Tuesday. Two goals came in the first quarter from Jasmine W, who worked hard to create space in the D. Bowbrook found a new gear when Ayla W stepped on court and showed her pace in the attacking half. Ayla scored 4 goals to boost Bowbrook’s lead in the game.

The cold weather pushed in and both teams struggled to keep warm but showed resilience in their efforts. Heathfield brought the game back to 6-4, so the pressure was on to keep possession. Harriet S showed fantastic confidence in her shooting ability which paid off with 2 further goals for Bowbrook.

A solid team effort and brilliant seeing the girls trying out new positions on court. Harper H was voted ‘Player of the Match’.

U12’s & U13’s Netball vs Heathfield

Netball at Bowbrook 2023

The under 12 and under 13 netball teams were both victorious in their matches against Heathfield School.

The under 12 team won 8:4 with both Zoe and Grace shooting well. Grace was awarded player of the match.

Olivia and Evelyn worked tirelessly to get the ball into our shooting third.

The Under 13 team won 19:5 and were dominant throughout the game. Ellen made some fantastic interceptions in defence and was awarded player of the match. The shooters, Amelia, Poppy and Erin were all in great form, reflected in the score line.

Fantastic performance from both Bowbrook teams, well done to everyone involved.
