Spring Term 2021 – E news 26.02.21

Pupils Return March 8th:

Further to my email outlining the pupils return I have had some questions which are attached and answered. If you have questions. please do send them to me and I will do a second FAQ sheet next Friday.

I personally cannot wait for ALL the pupils to return on Monday 8th and for us to begin to return to near normal. Some will be anxious, others ‘reluctant’ some have suffered bereavement. We will be mindful of this and we will be focussing on mental health and wellbeing as well as physical activity and resilience over the next four weeks…and of course continuing with academic rigour!

News from the Prep School:

We started the week with the great news that from the 8th of March we can all come back together again in school. A very welcome announcement for staff and pupils alike. This week the Prep staff have selected the following to be Star Pupil:

N/R – Alessia Carenza, for joining in brilliantly with all activities.

I1/2 – Harrison Hale, has completed some fantastic coding in our Computing curriculum this week – he has used visual blocks to create a programme, to move the angry bird to the naughty pig, whilst all set in a maze!
J3 – Evie Rea, for an impressive PowerPoint all about our new topic India

4SA – Olivia Bille, for working incredibly hard, entering all Bowbrook competitions as
well as keeping up with online learning.

4SWn – Josh Smith for enthusiasm and good team work in forest school.

5HR – Zoe Mudd, for a great week and a continued high level of work submissions and effort.

6SR – Rory Guthrie and Chloe Mills, for their conscientious effort in class and contributions to discussions in lessons.
We also have Accelerated Reader certificates for the following pupils:
Tom Wilson, Ayla Wood, Jonah Harris, Bea Meikle, Ben Rollason, Rosie Styles and Charlie Williams.

Worcester University Students:
Next week we will be welcoming two student teachers to the junior department who will be on a week’s placement/observation from The University of Worcester. To allay any concerns, they will undergo a LFT every day before entering the classrooms.
It has been a difficult time for all. We look forward to some near normality when the pupils return.

Art News:
I would like to thank all of our pupils for their hard work in art lessons during our
zoom lessons. We look forward to getting back up to the art room for real…

Year 6 are my stars of the week with their creative cat compositions.

Baby elephant: We have been delighted with the response to the elephant design competition. There are some wonderful entries already. PLEASE keep them coming.

Bright and beautiful: As we approach the end of the month, we will be drawing the Bright and Beautiful competition to a close. There is still time to submit an entry.

Help? Does anyone have a very rusty dilapidated part vehicle or car parts in their garden or nearby. We are looking for something like this to use as a photography project for one of our GCSE students. Any ideas of a location would be very welcome. Email Mrs Mellor. Thank you.

British Science week:
We have partnered with the University of Worcester, the Hive and The Royal Institution to put on a show on the topic of “Sustainable Power”.

The live shows are on 4th March and 5th March (ahead of Science week so as not to interfere with the return of schools).

Music news
We are very pleased to be welcoming back our peripatetic teachers into school Monday 8th March. We will be following music specific government guidance carefully as before, to ensure that musicians and teachers in school are as safe as possible.

Our teachers will be taking the Lateral Flow Test at the start of their teaching week.
They will continue to wear face masks and carry out social distancing measures and frequent hand washing. Teachers will also continue to ensure that students sanitize their hands upon entry and exit of our practise pods and surfaces will be cleaned regularly. We will continue to ensure that there is a good air flow though our pods; opening windows and doors throughout the day.

I am very aware that our students have greatly missed face to face teaching and we are very grateful to all of our peripatetic teachers, parents and children for their perseverance, cooperation and flexibility during this very difficult time. Thank you. I am hopeful that we can slowly begin to rebuild our music making in school.

Instrumental timetables will therefore be distributed on Monday 8th March. Please could you support your child in noting down the times and dates of their lessons in their planner for the remainder of this half term.

Stars of the Week: We would like to wish Ellie Clements in M7 much luck as she prepares for the ‘Worcester Competitive Arts Festival’ at the Royal Grammar School. We look forward to hearing how your performance went Ellie!

I would also like to praise Evie Rea in J3 for her superb piano playing in recent weeks. I was delighted to receive a video clip of her recent performance; thank you Evie.
I would also like to mention Edward Clarke in 8CD for his excellent effort towards his online Blues Composition. Edward sang his lyrics with soul and style against his bluesy chord progression; well done Edward.

Finally, Mr Jones would like to praise Claudia Evans and Lizzie Adey for their perseverance with some difficult chord shapes and transitions. Well done indeed!

PE department
We hope you all had an active half term and managed to get out and about in the fresh air.
We are really pleased to see some students taking part in the ISA Limitless Challenge.

Joshua Laws has been working hard and is currently top of the Bowbrook House School leader board, followed closely by Olivia Bille and Jack Pickering.

Kieran Wall, Amelie Laws, and Grace Wakley have also taken part in the challenges.
The UK Geocaching Challenge has begun and William Fawdrey has made an outstanding effort. He has not only been out Geocaching with his family he has encouraged many extended family members across the UK to get involved from Ascot to Inverness in Scotland! The photos can been seen on Bowbrook Study.

It would be great to see how many locations across the UK you can reach. There is still lots of time to get involved. If you haven’t tried Geocaching yet maybe have a go in the sunshine this weekend.
