SPRING TERM 2021 – E NEWS 19.03.21

Open day:
15 sets of parents representing potentially 20 pupils all round in one day. Ranging
from N/R and pre-school through to Year 8. A very positive day where every pupil
who was asked to speak or who met our visitors did themselves and the school
credit. Thank you to all the pupils and staff.
We have ‘taster days’ in every day next week as well as Year 11 undergoing the
second half of their ‘mock’ examinations for their GCSEs. A busy week ahead.

Testing:
Please can I remind you to test! Especially Year 7 where over half of the year group
failed to record their test results? It is to keep staff safe, parents safe and the school
open. Please remember to carry out your lateral flow test!

After School Prep:
After School Prep will resume from Monday 22nd March

News from the Prep School

This week our star pupils in the Prep School are:
N/R – Ruth Drakeley, for being helpful and working hard.
I1/2 – Nicholas Haines-Thorn for his colourful, fabric koinobori.
J3 – Sebastian Mathews-Wiggins, for beautiful manners and for always caring and
looking after his friends.
4SA – Olivia Bille, for working hard in all subjects, especially in Maths.
4SWn – Florence Easton for receiving the most smiley faces, and brilliant work in
English and Art.
5HR – Isabella Banham, for recent outstanding pieces in Art, Geography and
Maths.
6SR – Harry Wilkinson, for his conscientious effort in all he does and being well
organised.

Congratulations everybody.

We also commend Ben Rollason for his pen licence and Charlotte Meikle her
reading certificate. Well done both.

Parents’ evening:

Next week the Prep staff look forward to our Parent’s Evening zoom sessions on
Thursday evening. Please make sure you sign up to see all of your child’s teachers.

For N – J3 these will be done individually with your form teacher, for Year 4 – 6
appointment slots can be accessed through Bowbrook Study.
Mrs. Ridge

Art news:

We are very excited to have our baby elephant in school now. The designs are all
beautiful and we will be deciding very soon on our chosen idea. If you still have a
design, please make sure it comes into school by THE END OF NEXT WEEK.
We will close this competition on FRIDAY 26th March.

Our Bright and beautiful entries are being judged now and we will announce the
winners before the end of term. We will also make a powerpoint of these for
everyone to see.

My stars of the week this week are the Year 11 artists who have been working hard
on their lovely portfolios.

PLEASE can you save some of your recycled plastic for us. We need all shades of
grey and plain whites. This is for one of the Year 10 artists to create a masterpiece
with.

Thank you very much everyone,
Mrs Mellor

Music Enews

It was wonderful to hear our Junior Choir join together again outside to sing. This has
been our first opportunity since Christmas and it is such a joy to hear them sing so
enthusiastically. Well done Junior Choir. Choir lyrics should all be with the children
now; it would be helpful if they could begin to learn their words from memory. Thank
you for your help here.

Junior School: Please look out for music extra-curricular club letters going home over
the next week. We are excited to be able to slowly bring back some of our clubs
where social distancing can be carried out. After the Easter holidays, we are looking
forward to welcoming back String Group, Ukulele Club, Jazz Group and Recorder
Club.

Some of these club will require a reply slip and I would be grateful if you could return
this to the school office or to myself as soon as possible. Many thanks.

Please see our clubs timetable below:
Tuesday – String Group (Hall) 1pm-1.30
Wednesday – Recorder Club (Music Classroom) 12-1pm
Thursday – Jazz Group (Hall) 12.30 – 1pm
Friday – Ukulele Club (Music Classroom) – 12.30 – 1pm

Curriculum News:

I would like to praise Erin Grant this week in J6 for her superb ‘Ternary Form’
Rollercoaster composition. Erin worked very hard at home during our second
lockdown and relished the challenge to create a piece of music suitable for a
rollercoaster ride. She created some lovely ideas. Well done Erin!
Mrs Izod

Geocaching:
Congratulations to Josh and Amelie Laws, they have found 100 geocaches!

Have a good weekend everyone and stay safe!
