Silver Medalist at British Schools Alpine Skiing Championships
Silver Medal for Bowbrook School’s Isla Stavrou in the British Schools Skiing Championchips:
Isla Stavrou, Year 9, has had an encouraging start to her introduction to Alpine racing this Winter and is making her mark in British Skiing, as a 14 year old racing against U16’s!
Competing at the Welsh championships in Les Crosets in the Porte du Soleil, Switzerland in January, in near white-out conditions, she completed an amazing first run, however sport throws curve balls and she caught her ski edge at gate 2 meaning she couldn’t complete the race. But her best race was yet to come.
Isla then headed to Pila in the Aosta Valley, Italy to race in the British Schools Championship, representing Bowbrook House School. Isla came 2nd in the slalom race and was 4th fastest slalom racer on the hill.
Her Giant-Slalom runs were all superb and she was holding her position until the 3rd run when she was narrowly overtaken and was knocked off the podium by 1/100th of a second.
She was asked to be part of the British Schools Squad after a second-place finish at the schools open Championships at Swadlincote In November. Where Isla Stavrou and Cameron John were awarded 1st Place in the UK Schools Outdoor Open Champs 2024 as a Mixed Team’
Headmaster, Chris Allen was full of praise for the Year 9’s efforts: “A great season and with two more years at this age group it is a very promising start for this impressive young lady! Well done, Isla!”
