‘Dying to Drive’ at Bowbrook School

A review by Ayana G and Charlie R of Year 10:

Dying to Drive, run by Hereford and Worcester Fire Service, helps the next generation of drivers to understand the risks that may occur when driving, or just being a passenger. The workshops spread awareness about everyday distractions that people lose their lives to, why seatbelts are mandatory, and when and when not to drive after drinking.
Talks, real life stories, films and even a VR experience of being in an accident! All brought home the serious side to motoring. According to the Road Safety Charity, Brake, over 1,500 young drivers are killed or seriously injured on UK roads each year. Young male drivers under the age of 25 are four times more likely to be involved in a car accident than drivers aged 25 and older.
It would be a great experience for future pupils to take part in, so they too can learn how to be cautious on the road, and to take driving seriously. All presenters were knowledgeable, and shared both their stories, and other people’s which made the risks behind driving even more real.
It was a serious and sometimes upsetting look at the risks posed to young drivers and to their passengers. We would like to thank the West Mercia Police, the Hereford and Worcester Fire Service and also Mrs Brookes, our Form Tutor who organised this visit to Bowbrook School.
