Crime Day
We find you…Guilty!
Year 4 pupils at Bowbrook House School travelled back in time to 1897, as part of their Crime and Punishment Day. Children dressed up as convicted criminals with crimes ranging from petty theft to more severe offences like arson and murder! They were arrested and taken to the classroom which had been turned into a police station, featuring cells and a courtroom.
The children stood before a jury as class teacher, Miss Tait played the role of a merciless judge. They received their sentences before carrying out Victorian-style punishments such as the ‘Shot Drill’ and ‘Picking Oakum’ on the school field.
The afternoon focussed on modern day policing and officers from West Mercia Police arrived in style with sirens on. Officers performed a ‘mock arrest’ on the field and delivered a classroom session, taking fingerprints and DNA samples. It was a huge success and the children had a fantastic day.
