Midlands ISA Art winners!
We were delighted to receive the great news that some of our students have gained a first
place in the ISA’ s Midlands Art Competition.
We would like to congratulate Georgie Allart who won the Key Stage 4 Textiles category with
her Seahorses.
We also congratulate Grace Wakley, Maya Keys and Laura Harding for their Key Stage 3
entry of a decorated kimono which won first place in the fashion category.
This is brilliant news. We are really proud of them. The work will go forward to the ISA
Nationals in November. Thank you to all of our winners for their lovely work.

Music enews
Thank you to Tom Land in S10 this week who accompanied the school at the piano during
their hymn singing. A rehearsed and supportive performance; very well done Tom.
Lower Chamber Choir – A reminder that Lower Chamber Choir will not run on Monday 17th
October. Many apologies.
Harry Wilkinson in M8 deserves much praise this week for his superb efforts towards his
‘making an instrument’ homework. His focus and attitude also deserves much praise. Well
done Harry.

Harvest Festival:
Please remember harvest donations for our service next Thursday.

Prep School Disco:
On Friday we have our Halloween Disco for N – J6 pupils from 4.00 – 5.15pm. Pupils should
bring their clothes to school to get changed into and refreshments will be provided by the
Parent’s Committee.

Science Week:
Last week, on Friday, celebrating Science Week 2022 and its focus being on sustainability,
Year 5 and 6 children joined Katherine Courtney, a former Chief Executive of the UK Space
Agency, Chair of the Global Network on Sustainability in Space, and Founder of Primary
Space to talk to you about why she cares so much about space and why we should all care
about protecting the space environment!
Katherine shared some interesting facts about satellites; how we depend on them in our
everyday lives; and the important role they play in helping us understand and look after our
planet’s health.
Following our Microsoft Teams meeting all the children agreed that they now know more
ways to protect the unique space environment and understand how space science and
technology helps us protect our unique environment on Earth. Some interesting questions
and even more interesting answers. Well done to all in Year 5 & 6.

Lost property:
This week 4 blazers, 1 tracksuit top, 1 Sports shirt and 1 jumper have been handed in to lost
property which we have not been able to give back to pupils because none of them are
named.
There is also a named blazer that has gone missing. Please can parents check all items of
uniform to ensure they named, with the correct name! If by chance an item belonging to
someone else has made its way home with your child please return it to the school office on
Monday so we can reunite with it’s rightful owner.
It really does help everyone if all items of uniform are CLEARLY named and checked
regularly especially after laundering as names sometime do wear off.

U11’s Hockey vs Holy Redeemer
On Monday afternoon U11 Hockey team played Holy Redeemer in first home match of the
season. The match consisted of 8-minute quarters with lots of substitutions to allow for lots
of participation.
First quarter Bowbrook pushed the ball forwards but were struggling to score a goal. Poppy
Stokes was a force to be reckoned with as an attacking player and Holy Redeemer struggled
to defend.
Finally in the second quarter a goal was scored by Amelie Laws and Bowbrook were passing
the ball forwards with ease. Amelie Laws and Penny Mills played well in defence and were
confident when challenging their opponents.
After half time Bea Heaume and Roslie Wilkinson played well in defence and defended
many shots on goal from Holy Redeemer. Harper Hartwell worked hard and assisted
Bowbrook’s second goal in which Penny Mills scored.
Final quarter Bowbrook were leading 2-0 and played well as a team. A slight distraction in
the defending D within the last few minutes saw Holy Redeemer score which made the final
score 2-1.

U14’s Hockey vs Arnold Lodge
The U14 girls travelled to Coventry on Tuesday to play an all-boys team in a 7-a-side fixture.
The girls rose to the challenge, playing with energy and determination from the start. Some
skilful play and strong hitting saw Arnold Lodge go 2-0 up in the first quarter but Bowbrook
came back fighting. Lottie T made some incredible tackles in defence and distributed the ball up the pitch.
Izzy W and Poppy A showed great strength winning possession with their challenges in
midfield. Sofia M showcased her dribbling skills and shot home to make it 2-1. The boys
upped their game in the second half and took advantage of many fresh legs on the sideline. Well done to Felicity M who held her own in an U14 fixture, despite being in Year 7.Arnold Lodge’s teacher complimented the girls’ performance and said he was really
impressed with their attitude towards the game. The final score was 7-1 to Arnold
Lodge.

U14’s Rugby vs Malvern College
The U14’s kicked off their rugby season with a tough fixture away to Malvern College. The
game started swiftly with the Bowbrook boys having to withstand lots of oncoming pressure
from the Malvern side. Malvern scored 3 tries in quick succession before the Bowbrook team realised that they would need to be physical in order to match their opponents. This is where the first try for Bowbrook came as number 8 Tom powered his way through the Malvern defence to dot the ball down.
The teams confidence grew from the first score and not long afterwards we were celebrating a second try from team captain Albert, converted by Will, as we took advantage of penalties, taking quick taps and catching the opposition offside. As the first half drew to a lose there was realisation from the team that tackles being completed was a number one priority.
The second half followed a similar pattern as the 1st . The Malvern team proved to be too
strong physically but it wasn’t without the Bowbrook boys going down without a fight. Tom
powered his way through the defence again to score his second try, converted by Charlie,
and another was scored by a Malvern player that joined our side to help even numbers after
injuries to the Bowbrook boys. In the second half Bowbrook moved the ball well and strong
running from Will, Anotnious and Mustafa all helped to put the team in good positions.
A tough opening game for the U14’s, but one that we can take a lot of lessons from in
preparation for next week’s fixture against Tudor Grange.

U16’s Rugby vs St Edwards
After a strong training session last Friday, and more structure being introduced to the team,
the U16’s made the journey to St Edwards in Cheltenham with high spirits. From the first kick off Bowbrook struggled to break out of their own 22 area and had to withstand very big
strong ball carriers running straight down the centre of the field. It was clear that the
defensive focus in training had paid off as there was lots of good organisation in defence
and the players held out the St Edwards team in a number of defensive phases.
Were the defensive efforts had showed improvements, it is clear that we need to look at our
attacking structure. We tried to match the physicality of St Edwards running direct at them
and with lots of carries, made small amounts of progress over the gain line. This helped St
Edwards to strip the ball back from Bowbrook and regain possession, putting the boys back
under defensive pressure.
The boys grew with confidence throughout this game, ultimately only conceding two tries to
the physical St Edwards side. We began to move the ball to the wings more and identified
their weakness with pace out side but, unfortunately, Bowbrook couldn’t strike the final blow to get over the try line. A much stronger defensive effort from the boys this week and a focus on attack will follow in this weeks training.
