Rags 2 Riches for schools will be making collection at school, so please support it again and now more than ever these clothes and items are desperately needed.
PLEASE PLACE THE BAGS BY THE MUSIC ROOM BY 9AM
A great opportunity to sort out your wardrobe before the winter. There was a good
programme on the BBC about what happens to the clothing if you are interested:

We will not receive any bags from Rags 2 Riches so please just use any binbag, and don’t forget you can bring as many bags as you can!!

The Parents Committee
The Focus of Next Week’s assembly will be “Hello Yellow”:
School mental health awareness week. Pupils will be allowed to wear one item of yellow
for a £1 donation to the charity, swapping this bright colour in for a piece of uniform and
hopefully making each other smile in the process!
News from the Prep School
Thank you to I1 /2 for leading our assembly this week which was all about reading and their
favourite books.

J5 – Rosalie Bolt for always engaging in tasks without fuss.
6SR – Joshua Smith for his contribution to the House swimming gala.
6NS – Tom Wilson for an impressive standard of work.
Congratulations everybody.
We also commended Jack Jones (J3) for achieving his outward-bound Blue Peter
badge, Rosalie Wilkinson (6SR) for achieving her level 7 and Bronze swimming awards
and Pippa – Jo Houston (I1) for a horse-riding trophy and bronze medal recently received
for a competition she entered.
We are also very proud of Miss Tait and Mrs Stephens for completing their first Triathlon
last weekend at Stratford Upon Avon. Well done everybody.
Dates for your diary:
Thursday 20th October the Prep School will have their Harvest service at Peopleton church.
Please can pupils bring in a harvest donation which will be sent to the Maggs Day Centre in
Worcester. This centre helps to feed homeless people within our community. Please only
send in packets of dry food or tins – no fresh produce. Many thanks.
On Friday 21st October our Parent’s Committee will be hosting a Halloween Disco at the end of the school day, for all pupils in the Prep School. This will be from 4.00 – 5.15pm. Pupils are invited to bring a Halloween fancy dress costume to school to change into beforehand. More details to follow.
Lots to look forward to as we approach the end of our first half term.

Music News:
Several of our music students deserve a mention this week. Claudia Evans Year 10 has
been a huge help in Orchestra these past few weeks; setting up amps, guitars, leads and
stands. In fact, I am generally very impressed with our musicians in Orchestra. All are loyal,
hardworking, kind and hold a brilliant attitude. It is a pleasure to make music together. Thank you too to Mrs Robinson and Ms Govin for their continued support in Orchestra.
Lucy Sinnott in S11 has made significant progress in composition this week; well done Lucy,
and Lucca D’Amore in M7 is showing a mature and superb attitude towards his saxophone
playing.
I would also like to mention Harry Ross in in M7 for his methodical staff notation reading and continuous superb attitude in music; very well done to all.
Lower Chamber Choir
Advance notice that Lower Chamber Choir will not be able to run after school on Monday
17th October (week before half term). Many apologies. It will resume again on Monday 7th
November.
Group Ukulele Lessons: There are still spaces available if your child is interested in
learning the Ukulele with Mr Jones. Please return the reply slip to the letter sent home a few
weeks ago to secure a place, thank you.
Rock/Blues Band: Rock Band is returning to Bowbrook! Please look out for letters going
home next week with more information.

U13’s Hockey vs Heathfield
The U13 hockey squad played their first game of the season away at Healthfield School in
Kidderminster. The girls got off to a flying start and took advantage of a nervous Heathfield
team. Felicity Moore scored two quick goals in the first few minutes and was followed soon
after by Poppy Arnold who slipped the ball past their keeper. Amelia Speers and Ellie Dean
played effectively in defence clearing the ball into their half. Lucinda Kirkham impressed with her first game as Goal Keeper.
Olivia Simpkins, Poppy Arnold and Chloe Mills made a good combination in attack and with some accurate crosses by Poppy and Chole into the circle allowed Olivia the space to score two goals. Lottie Fairchild worked hard to get on the score sheet and added another two to the score. Bowbrook played some confident hockey and came away with an 8-0 win. A great start to the season. Well done.
U14’s Hockey A & B vs Tettenhall
U14A v Tettenhall College:
On Monday 3rd October Bowbrook’s A team played against Tettenhall School in their first
competitive hockey match of the season. Bowbrook started off with a strong defence with
Lottie Tocknell making some good tackles, Lucinda Kirkham played confidently as GK and
was put under pressure for the entire game with some excellent saves.
In the 2nd quarter Sofia Merlin found space and took the ball forward to score. There was some excellent play from Liv Simpkin who used the width of the pitch to move the ball forwards. In the 3rd and final quarter Chloe Mills & Izzy Wilcox made a difference with
the defence and ensured no further goals were scored. A great match played by all with Liv Simpkins awarded player of the match. Final score 2-1.
U14 B v Tettenhall College:
Tettenhall started the game very strongly and gained two goals in quick succession, they
tested Bowbrook’s defence throughout the entire match. Amelia Spears & Elle Dean worked
hard and tried to clear the ball out of the D when possible. Chloe Mills read the game well
and used the width of the pitch to try and gain space and cross the ball to the forwards.
At half time changes were made and Charlie Rush & Lottie Fairchild worked tirelessly in defence ensuring no further goals were scored. Carys Riley, Poppy Arnold and Isabella Banham had some attempts at goal but unfortunately couldn’t get it past the keeper. Lots to
work on but a good start to the season for the U14’s. Final score 2-0 with Lottie Fairchild & Charlie Rush awarded player of the match.
U9’s Tag Rugby vs Holy Redeemer
On Monday our U9’s, consisting of all students from years 3 and 4, played a tag rugby fixture against Holy Redeemer.
We played the game in 3 sections to make sure that everyone had a fair amount of game time. The game started quickly with both teams starting fast and quickly trying to get out to the wings.
As the game continued the two teams traded tries back and forth. Holy Redeemer scored
first with Bowbrook answering immediately with a fast paced try from team captain Leo. Holy Redeemer scored again and then another try was scored by Jack and the game continued in this fashion. Both teams grew stronger in defence as the game continued with some excellent tagging from Harriet, Will and Adam. Further tries were scored by Aadil, Oscar and Harriet with the rest of the team showing progress in the understanding to run forwards with the ball.
The score line was close but Holy Redeemer had scored a couple more tries that Bowbrook
making them the winners but, most importantly, everyone came of the pitch having had fun
and enjoying a good game of rugby. Well done too all of the players for playing such an
exciting game and for proudly representing the school in such a positive way.
House Swimming
Tuesday saw the return of the house swimming gala for the first time since pre covid. In total 70 students gathered, in their respective houses, to compete in a range of swimming events at Pershore Leisure Centre.
There was some fantastic swimming on display, as well as house spirit and it was lovely to
see so many students representing their houses. All who volunteered to represent their
House are to be commended. Well done!
There was a high level of competitive swimming on show from a range of students. Josh
showed his swimming power that saw him selected for the ISA National’s last year, Tapi
demonstrated incredible resilience to enter each race possible for his house, earning
valuable points for his house in the process, Ashton’s backstroke turning aspects impressed
the staff, especially as Mr Whittingham who ended up soaked at the end of the lane, and
Lucy earned valuable points for her house with closely competitive races.
Well done to all that competed and keep an eye out for the swimming team announcement
for the Senior ISA Midland’s swimming competition that takes place on Thursday 13th
October.
The results for the competition:
4th Place with 69 points = Hastings
3rd Place with 75 points = Blenheim
2nd Place with 77 points = Waterloo
1st Place with 78 points = Trafalgar

U16’s Rugby vs Kingham Hill
Game number two for our U16’s squad was away to Kingham Hill. With a squad of bare 15
the Bowbrook boys arrived to be greeted by a swarm of Kingham players all raring to go.
After a quick warm up the game kicked off and immediately turned into a physical battle.
Kingham were relentless with their attack moving the ball well down the line to stretch the
Bowbrook defence, with also some strong carriers running hard at the Bowbrook defensive
line. A quick try from Kingham woke the boys up from their bus journey and they knew they
had to respond with their own physicality.
The whole game turned into a defensive effort from Bowbrook. The boys worked hard as a
defensive line to drift across and make strong challenges to the Kingham side and forced
them to make lots of mistakes. The boys tried very hard to capitalise on these mistakes and
ran hard at the Kingham defence breaking, breaking into the 22 meter area on a handful
occasions, but unfortunately falling short to the physicality of Kingham. Some very good
phases of attack saw Jack, Luca and Oli all get close to the opposition try line and the
endeavour shown to continue battling towards the try line was admirable from the whole
team.
The second half became a tough competition for Bowbrook. With no subs and a couple of
injuries the game began to run away from the boys. Kingham were very gracious in lending a couple of players to Bowbrook who helped the boys tremendously but the opposition
ultimately finished the game taking advantage of the low Bowbrook numbers.
All who watched the game commented on the incredible resilience of the Bowbrook team
and it was evident as the game continued that the team improved tremendously throughout the course of the game. The Bowbrook team definitely learnt a lot about rugby from the game and will use this game to fuel training sessions and develop rugby skills further.
U12’s Rugby vs St Edwards
The last rugby fixture for this week saw the U12’s team take on St Edwards. With a number
of players stepping up to play from year 6, this was always going to be a tough fixture with
lots of debutants to rugby. St Edwards arrived with a coach full of year 7’s who at first sight
were much bigger than us as a team.
We started strongly with a fantastic kick off from Alfie that put pressure onto the St Edwards
players, forcing them to make a knock on. The resulting scrum was strong and this forced St
Edwards to defend their try line from the beginning. As a physical side, St Edwards returned
pressure to Bowbrook and took the game into a physical confrontation. Bowbrook attempted to play a fast-paced game getting the ball to the wingers and running hard at the St Edwards players but they proved to be much more physical than the Bowbrook boys are used to.
As the game developed, Bowbrook’s confidence in tackling increased and Harry made some
exciting runs down the wing, unfortunately not quite getting over the try line. Overall the boys will have learnt a lot from the game and will use this going forward to understand further, the game of rugby.
Notable Sporting Achievements
As a school community we want to pass on our congratulations to Troy in S11 who won his
boxing match (representing Worcester DP Boxing Club) winning all three rounds. With strict
training 5 times a week, Troy is showing us all that hard work and dedication will ultimately
result in high quality performance. Well done on your achievements Troy and we look forward to hearing about your next event.
