Next week is the ‘Christmas Bag’ donations week for Worcester Foodbank.
(22nd-26th) 

See attached the flyer.  

Last year we literally filled a van with food parcels – so let’s see if we can match that this year and give some Christmas cheer to those in need of the Worcester foodbank. 

Please bring all donations to the main school hall.

News from the Art Room 

A reminder about some up and coming competitions. 

Competition 1…… 

We would like to invite all of our pupils to design a LOGO for our production of Oliver. A simple but effective picture which sums up what the production is all about. This example might get you thinking.

Competition 2………. 

Design a poster for our Oliver production. ( a scene from the story would be perfect).
This needs to be colourful and clear and made on A4 size paper. 

ENTRIES TO BE COMPLETED BY 1st December.  PRIZES WILL BE AWARDED FOR OUR WINNERS.   HAVE FUN!

CAROL CONCERT: 

Order of service front cover design. We have had some wonderful artwork made in previous years for our Carol service cover. We would love pupils to produce a piece of art for us again this year. 

The theme?  Music, Singing, Christmas, The Nativity Story. 
Please use bright, clear colours and work on A4 Portrait size. 

Entries for all three of our competitions by 1st December, please, at the latest. 

THANK YOU VERY MUCH for the offers of unwanted wood. We have been very glad to take up some of the offers and Mr Hunt has already started to put some pieces together!! 

News from the Prep School :

Thank you to everybody that donated to our ‘spotty’ themed Children in Need day on Friday, the children all looked great. An extra thank you to our prefects Oscar Murray and Arya Govin who organised the cake sale at short break.  

Our Star Pupils for this week are as follows: 

  • N – Quinn Williams, for super listening. 
  • R – Iris Cates, for super effort in our Nativity. 
  • I1 – Amelia Siviter, for a super, independent write up following our school trip. 
  • I2 – Nicholas Haines – Thorn, for a super, independent write up following our school trip. 
  • J3 – Will Rush, for always being a team player. 
  • J4 – Luke Drakeley, for fantastic reading and working confidently. 
  • 5KT/SW – Daniel Turberville- Tully, for putting smiles on our faces and being kind and caring. 
  • 5NS – Max Brackenbury, for settling in well to life at Bowbrook. 
  • 6SR – Isla Stavrou, for her fabulous poetry writing this week.  

The following pupils also received certificates for achieving their Accelerated Reader Targets: 

Luke Drakeley, Cameron Haines-Thorn, Ayla Wood, Edward Fallows, Jonah Harris, Amelie Laws, Tom Wilson and Toby Bennett.

Well done to J3 and Miss Cox for their Prep assembly acknowledging that this week is ‘Anti-bullying’ week.

Next Friday, we welcome our local MP Nigel Huddleston into school to talk to the Juniors about what his job involves doing and working for the government.

 All of the pupils are busy deciding what questions they may like to ask him if they have opportunity.

Lastly a thank you to all of our prefects for organising the cake sale today. It was lovely to see h Senior pupils helping out with Children in Need.

Music e news:

It has been a very festive, busy and vibrant week in the music department with Carol Service and Nativity rehearsals in full swing. Drumming Group have made a fantastic start to their ensemble rehearsals. Alex McMillan in Year 9 offered great support on the kit to Heidi Styles, Nancy Sefton and Alex Rajjayabun; well done. 

Thank you Mr Booton too for beginning this exciting club for our school drummers! 

I would like to also praise Heidi Styles, Joshua Laws, Ellie Clements and Millie Stokes in Year 8 for their superb leadership skills. All have shown great resilience, patience and creativity whilst they conduct their small ensemble as part of their ‘Stomp Junk Percussion’ project. Very well done indeed.  

Tom Land in Year 9 has shown superb progress with his piano accompaniment during Orchestra and Laura Harding in Year 9 has excelled with her vocal solo countermelody during Upper Chamber Choir this week. Well done! 

I also had the pleasure of watching a I1&2 perform their ‘Repeating Patterns’ piece this week using voices, body percussions and their instruments. Thank you Miss Smith, Mrs Mao and I1&2 for sharing this. What a lovely performance.  

Carol Service: 

A reminder that our Carol Service will taking place on Thursday 9th December this year at Pershore Abbey. There will be a rehearsal during the morning of the 9th for all those involved; details to follow soon. This year we can only allow limited numbers in the Abbey therefore, not all of our students can attend sadly.  

At present: Junior Choir (J3, 4, 5 and 6), Chamber Choirs, Orchestra, Jazz Group, String Group, Recorder Club, Year 11 prefects and potentially Drumming Group will be taking part. Invitation letters have seen home this with these students.  

Instrumental: Many apologies, Mr Jones has been unable to teach in school this week. Catch up lessons and Ukulele Clubs will be scheduled.

Fixture and results 

U9 ISA Football

5 boys from years 3 and 4 travelled to the Wyre Forest Leisure Centre for the ISA U9 5 a side football tournament. The team comprising of Jack Jones, Sebastian Mathews-Wiggins, Luke Drakeley, Louis Marien and late replacement due to injury, Will Rush, battled hard during their first match of 11. 

Jack, who usually plays rugby, was being tested in goals for the whole 7 minutes of each match. Louis was relishing his position in defence and was doing all he could to stop the teams attacking.  

A change of position saw Will covering most of the pitch chasing down the ball. Luke and Seb dropped back into midfield to support him. This seemed to change the dynamics of the team and they began pressurising the opposition defence. Luke had a few shots on goal and Will was rewarded with a goal taken from an assist slotting it past the goal keeper with his left foot.   

All of the pupils performed to the best of their ability and behaved impeccably.  

This was their first match as a team so we hope to build on this for the future. Well done.  

National Swimming Qualifier 

Well done to Evie R from J4 – we have just received confirmation that she has qualified to represent the Midlands at the ISA National Swimming event at the London Olympic swimming pool at the end of this month in the Breaststroke. Very well done, Evie!

U13 Rugby V Bredon – Lost 30-35 

What a close encounter!!!  We went 3 tries up, then conceded 3 tries, we then traded tries until the last whistle when they finally ended up on top by a single try.  Although they played some good rugby it was certainly ours to win and a few unnecessary errors opened the door to the opposition who took advantage. 

Tom W made some excellent runs as always and the return of Myles L was great to see.  Will F was again very impressive at the rucks and is fast becoming a useful addition to the team.  Will C moved the ball well from 9 and distributed considerately.  Frustrating close but an excellent game played in good spirits but an exceptionally close encounter which could have gone either way.   Well done to those involved and we look forward to the next encounter!  

U16 Hockey V Kingham Hills 

On Wednesday, Bowbrook travelled away to Kingham Hill School near Oxford. The girls teamed up with some of the opposition to play a full 11-a-side match. Georgie Allart was put to the test immediately, clearing the ball from the line in the first two minutes. Lottie Wilkinson worked well alongside a Kingham midfielder to drive to the ball up the wing. Despite some strong tackles from Jasmine Stokes in defence, Kingham were 1-0 up at half time. Holly Allart covered lots of ground and Alice Bate fought off some heavy attacking play. Bowbrook held possession well in the second half, a long-range pass into the D saw Helena Rajjaybun sweep the ball into goal, making it 1-1. Unfortunately, Kingham managed to slot home the winner at the end of the match but Bowbrook fought well and grew in confidence on the ball as the game went on. Well done to all those involved, particularly to Georgie who made some fabulous saves, and Lottie who was voted player of the match (final score: Kingham Hill School won 2-1).
