AUTUMN TERM – E NEWS 17.09.21 - Bowbrook House School

Over two weeks in and everyone appears to be settling into the new routines of being in school and following a more ‘normal’ timetable. It certainly is lovely to see the school coming back to life! There is some fine tuning around pick-ups and parking etc… so, to address those first:

Complaint:
We have had a call from a distressed villager who was ‘nearly knocked down’ by a speeding car from our school. Please, please, please, drive at less than 30 mph. Park considerately and give them no cause to complain! The police have said they will be visiting next week.

Reducing Traffic:
The staggered finish seems to be reducing congestion but we would like to reduce traffic as a whole. Worcester Bus: is undersubscribed and could easily take another 20 – 25 pupils. If you would like to consider using the Worcester Bus please email Mrs Hunt for details.

Car Sharing:
Again if you would like to be linked to ‘close’ families geographically please contact Mrs Hodgson about potential car shares. We shall share details of parents who express an interest in a car share.

Mobile Phones:
Are not needed by pupils who travel to and from school by parents’ car. Please do not allow them to be brought into school. If a pupil does have a phone with them they are to be handed in to the tutor. Mis use of mobile phones on school prperty or during school time will result in sanctions. Reminder: The school has the right to look at all material on a phone if it is on school site.

In Other (More Positive!) News:
Fixtures have started, the music rooms are full and sounds radiate, clubs and activities are up and running and we are seriously looking forward to the launch of ‘Oliver!’. It is so nice to have a full and varied extra curricular programme up and running. My thanks go to the staff who are embracing the new opportunities with enthusiasm…

Jeans for Genes: Thank you S11 for our first charity event of the year was successful – total to be announced.

Meet the New Parents: Also successful with over 30 new children all seemingly well settled and making a good start.

PE Department News.

Gum Shields and Shin Pads:

Another polite reminder please – Gum shields and shin pads are required for games lessons. Hockey, football and netball are played and these items are designed to protect players, so can all parents please support in making sure students have these for their lessons. They can be ordered easily and arrive very quickly. Gum shield are only not possible in a very small amount of cases and if this applies to your child then please contact your child’s Games teacher to discuss. Thank you.

Match Spectators:

It was great to have some spectators at our home game this week. This match was after school and on the school field so the cross-over of parents and children was avoided.

Going forwards we want to tentatively allow spectators for home games. Matches on the field are easier to manage – we ask that parents maintain distance from students, park on the field (for now) and avoid walking into and around school.

Matches played on the playground are somewhat trickier as there will be some cross-over with students. Spectators for these games will need to park on the field (not in the drive). When walking to the playground we ask that parents wear a mask and go to the playground wall only. Parents in this case will be asked to ‘sign in’ ‘at the wall (not the reception). We will monitor and review the process and appreciate your cooperating with these processes.

Worcestershire Archery Champion:

Alex SM of Year 10 won the U14s Worcestershire Archery championships. Congratulations young man.

U14 Rugby V St Edwards –Won 45-0

The first rugby game of the season was very successful indeed! St Edwards were a bit of an unknown entity and as a larger school we felt it may have been a challenging task but the U14’s played brilliantly especially when considering how early in the season it is. We played period of play to allow for water breaks and rests. By the end of the first we had scored 2 tries with no reply. Another 4 came in the middle third. The final third was a closer contest with some levelling intervention from the referee.

Every single individual in the team is deserving of a mention and I’m sure will get one at some point but some noteworthy performances included Tom G at every ruck!, Rory C tackling and running really well, James C captaining the side and leading by example, Will R and Tom W making excellent ground with the ball…The list could go in but it really was an excellent team performance and a brilliant outcome. Well done to all involved.

U16 ISA Football

A group of 13 Year 10 and 11 students travelled an hour up the motorway to Highclare School sports fields to take part in the ISA U16 Midlands Football Tournament.

The format of the day was 7 games played over 13 minutes with no half time. The matches were fast and frenetic!

The first game was against Lucton School. This saw the lads play as a team for the first time in over 18 months and was a sight to behold resplendent in new football kit. New boys Ashton Cassidy and Troy Jalal stepped up admirably and wore the Bowbrook badge with pride. Unfortunately, this game ended with Bowbrook conceding 2 goals leaving the final score at the whistle 2-0 to Lucton.

A switch of players and positions during the break saw the lads come out fired up for the second match against Priory School. Unfortunately, during the 13 minutes Bowbrook conceded 3 goals and never seemed to be able to press forwards leaving the score line 3-0 to Priory.

The third game was against Brook House College which is a football academy. The rules clearly stated only 3 academy players were allowed to play at any one time…. difficult when the whole team come from an academy. The lads performed much better against the eventual winners. The match ended 2-0 to Brook House.

Match 4 saw Bowbrook in full flow against the hosting school, Highclare. During the 13 minutes all of the lads performed as a team and were rewarded with 2 goals in quick succession one from Noah Stanton and the other from Flynn Little. The match ended 2-1 to Bowbrook.

The next 2 matches saw us lose to Stoneygate School and Quinton House 3-0.

Finally, at 14:20 the lads stepped onto the pitch for their final match against Dixie Grammar. Dixie were a very physical team all the way through the tournament and looked like a formidable task was ahead of them. Up stepped Ailbhe Clark and Noah Stanton to slot in 2 well worked goals. Dixie pulled 1 back ending the match at 2-1 to Bowbrook.

Well done to the whole team. Mr Draper was proud of you all and you upheld the school motto that is “Work with pride”
