Following our assembly on Dyslexia:
I am very proud of thee attached work, done independently, which followed our assembly on Dyslexia and the ‘Thought for the Week’ from Ms Govin. Ms Govin invited students to find out more about this condition. Will of M8BW was very brave in sharing his research, and the personal experience he has with Dyslexia. It is a very interesting read. (see attached) Thank you for sharing your thoughts Will! Well done young man!

Laptops:
We are getting an increasing number of students coming in to borrow laptops for lessons. Whilst we are happy to lend laptops when laptops aren’t working, we don’t have enough to cover students who are not bringing their laptops into school. An email has been sent to tutors to ask them to remind students that laptops are part of their equipment. Equipment checks will follow over the next two weeks.

Music enews:
Congratulations to all of the students in our prep school who sang beautifully in Peopleton Church this week to celebrate our Harvest Festival. Infant Choir sang confidently with some lovely actions and Junior Choir shared some wonderful harmonies. It was a joy to hear the children singing hymns together again. Well done to all!

Much praise was given to Kassidy this week in year 8 for the effort and time she put into her music homework. Students were asked to build or create an unconventional instrument to use as part of their ‘Junk Percussion’ ensemble work. Kassidy built and carved a flute, complete with a corked mouthpiece and finger holes making a superb sound. Very well done indeed Kassidy! Betsy too crafted a beautiful maraca to contribute to her ensemble. Well done Betsy.

BUG (Bowbrook Ukulele Club)
Please be aware that we have decided to split Ukulele group to help us to manage and teach effectively. Infants J3 and J4 Ukulele Club will now take place on a Thursday lunch time at 12.30 and J5 and J6 Ukulele Club will continue to take place on a Friday at 12.30; both groups in the main hall.

Senior Chamber Choir
Many apologies for any confusion this week with regard to Senior Chamber Choir timings. We have had to move our rehearsal day to avoid clashes with other clubs therefore, Senior Chamber Choir will now run on a Friday lunch time at 1.30 in the music room. This activity is invitation only. Thank you very much to those who attended today; a fantastic first rehearsal. Thank you for supporting us too Mrs Elliott!

String Group
Congratulations to Charlotte in year 8 who has been promoted to the 1^st violin part within String Group. Well done Lottie; this is an excellent achievement.

Prep News:
Congratulations to the pupils listed blow and to all for the wonderful Harvest Festival held at Peopleton church. It is always a lovely occasion. We will try to utilise the church more for various services now that ‘conditions’ allow, it has been missed.

Trips out:
Exciting trips out next week for J3 & 4 on Monday to an ISA event; the Tri-Golf tournament at Dixie Grammar School. Tuesday; Year 4 Swimming. Wednesday: N & R to the Avoncroft museum. Back at 1.45 p.m. and also on Wednesday Year 6 Evacuees! All day. his is always a very memorable trip, with lots of good practical experiences. Plus the staff are busy planning an exciting curriculum alive day based around STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Maths) with the help of the senior school science teachers. More details to follow.

News from the Prep School
On Thursday, the Prep School attended Peopleton Church for our annual Harvest Service and what a treat it was. The pupils sang beautifully, read eloquently and were suitably in awe of having our Year 11 Prefects assist with the service – a big thank you to Isla, Cappucine, Lottie, Oscar and Ariya. There was a fantastic amount of donations brought in by the children for the Maggs Day Centre – thank you very much for your contributions.

U16 Netball

U9 Tag Rugby V Holy Redeemer and Tettenhall College
The U9’s had 2 tag games this week and played really well in both. We don’t keep score in U9 tag but it was fair to say they were very competitive and scored some excellent tries. Cameron made powerful runs forwards to gain excellent ground. Luke was able to do some darting runs to avoid the opposition taggers, Sebastian used his pace to make some try saving tags. Jack stood out as an excellent runner and tagger and was rewarded with scoring on a number of occasions. Will and Adam grew in confidence as the game progressed and were able to make some important meters in attack. Leo and Louis also showed a good turn of pace to beat the opposition when in possession of the ball. It was both enjoyable and showed progression and it was a pleasure to referee both games.

U13 Rugby V Holy Redeemer and Tettenhall College – Lost 15-30
13 boys travelled to Tettenhall for an U13 rugby fixture which started as a very close fought affair. We missed speedster, Myles L, who was absent through injury but I was very pleased with the efforts of others that travelled, many of whom have not played rugby either at all or for some considerable time. The first half ended as a 15-15 draw. Tettenhall were good at getting the ball wide to a fast winger who scored their 3 tries. However, powerhouses like Albert, and Tom W made some excellent runs to break down the opposition defence and create a platform for scoring opportunities. A try a piece for Tom W, Will C and Harry C sealed the first half draw.

Despite huge efforts from some, it was evident that the pace in the first half had sapped the energy of others and gaps began to appear in defence allowing the opposition to break through to seal the win.

Oliver S was absolutely immense throughout, making excellent tackles and rucking brilliantly. Will C rose in confidence as the game went on and made an excellent contribution. Harry C also began to make some brilliant runs and I have no doubt that as he learns the game he will become very successful through excellent attitude and effort. Well done to all involved.

U13 Hockey V Arnold Lodge
Match Report

On Thursday 30th September Bowbrook’s U13 hockey team travelled to Coventry to play 2×7 a side matches against Arnold Lodge. On arrival we were surprised to be playing against a boys’ team but happy to play a competitive match. With an A and B team for Bowbrook the teams got ready to play, on either side of the pitch.

Team B

The matches consisted of 8-minute quarters and a swap over of ends at half time. The girls were apprehensive on playing on such a large pitch but happy to be on AstroTurf, first quarter our forward players Chloe and Lottie were straight into the action trying to get an early goal. Unfortunately, Arnold Lodge managed to get away with it scoring the first goal of the game. Second & third quarter both teams were evenly matched with our defensive players; Heidi and Erin working hard to prevent opposition from scoring. The girl’s worked extremely well as a team and were showing some excellent skill and tactical play which paid of with a goal from Hannah evening the score out to 1-1. Last quarter all players were tired and had all played their best. Final score being 1-1.

Team A

Miss Tait was umpiring the A team match on the other pitch and her comments were; the team had a slow start in the rain, but the team picked up after the second half with some strong links between midfield and attack. Lottie and Farah were solid at the back and carried the ball forward with confidence supplying the ball to Sophia who worked hard against their defence. Unfortunately, the score ended in a loss, 5-1 to Arnold Lodge.

U10 Hockey V Bredon
Monday 4^th October Bowbrook played Bredon in U10 Hockey. The weather was on our side and it was nice to see parents spectating on the side at another prep school match. The team were ready and in formation at the start of the whistle and it took Bredon players by surprise with our player’s knowledge in hockey. An early goal from Bowbrook was brilliant to watch and by the end of the first quarter it was 1-0 to Bowbrook. The players worked well as a team and each player knew which position, they were playing in; Harper, Ayla, Amelie and Josh worked well in defence together to try and stop the opponents from scoring. Our forward players were a combination of Poppy, Olivia, Tai, Tom and Jonah. They were a real force to be reckoned with and the score after 3^rd quarter was still 1-1. There was some excellent skill by Tai and Tom but as a team we struggled to find the goal and score. Unfortunately, in the last quarter Bredon managed to score 1 more goal and take the win. However, every player should be proud of how the played and worked as team. Player of the match was Josh.
