Ancient Sumer artefacts
Year 5 pupils from Bowbrook House School turned their classroom into a history museum, creating artefacts from Ancient Sumerian times. Following their spring term history topic, class teacher Miss Tait, set them the challenge to design an artefact and an accompanying information sheet which gave details of their museum collections.
The pupils showcased their new knowledge with a variety of weapons, jewellery, clay writing tablets and musical instruments. One pupil created a lyre out of an old chair and others produced interactive PowerPoints with ‘click here for more detail’ buttons. 10-year-old Maria Parkes said, ‘it was really exciting, I loved painting it and putting it together’. Ayla Wood added, ‘it was like stepping back in time and experiencing how Ancient Summers lived.’ Their museum was open to visitors who made their way around tables, following arrows and signs made by the children.
Miss Tait said, ‘I’m really proud of how the children responded to the task. They’ve enjoyed history this term and we’re excited to share their work with others in school.
