National ISA Art First Place Key Stage 3:

We were delighted to hear news from ISA that Bowbrook have won first place in the Collaborative Art competition. Groups of Year 8 and 9’s worked hard on these entries last term in textiles and in the pottery. We could submit only three pieces.

The winning entry was created by Charlotte Pennington Fairchild, Amelia Speers and Ellie Dean. They designed the textile hanging based on the theme of inclusivity and togetherness, and it was designed and planned to be gifted to The Maggs Day Centre. This linked to Mrs Farr’s fundraising events. for the same cause.

The girls can feel very proud of their achievement. It is quite something to come first in an ISA competition: The judges’ report stated:

This work addresses the themes of diversity and inclusivity clearly. There is evidence of skills and care in how it was created, combining stitching, embroidery and painting on fabric. The rationale behind the design is clearly explained as it is how each of the collaborators contributed to the creation of the work. What sets this work apart from other entries is that it was created for a day centre for the homeless, and thought went into how to give a message of hope to those who would see the work. Thus the creators of the work considered how it would be perceived beyond the school building.

Well done to Ellie, Amelia and Lottie on being awarded first place in the ISA Community Art Competition. As well as their ISA certificates, they have also each won a prize of art supplies from our sponsor Abacus Creative Resources. These will be sent to your school.

Mrs Mellor would also like to praise the whole of Year 8 and 9. They worked so hard on their respective textile and ceramic pieces last term.
