Another ‘interesting’ week at Bowbrook:

We finish the week with the sunshine streaming in to my study and bright blue sky. Whilst we may have got away with it to a certain extent the snow was not welcome other than to see the enjoyment of the pupils in ‘playing’ in it!

U15’s ISA National 7’s @ Market Bosworth RFC

Despite the weather this week making fixtures difficult, the U15’s made the journey to Market Bosworth to take part in the National 7’s competition. We were placed into a group with Princethorpe, Finborough, St David’s College and Alton School and game of the first game of the day saw us take on Alton.

March sport at Bowbrook

After the experience of the 7’s tournament in school, the team realised that moving the ball into space was key and started the day off nicely moving the ball into the hands of Sid, who was unstoppable in space, and got the game rolling with the first try going to Bowbrook. Sid continued with top running form throughout this game, earning himself a hat trick, whilst Theo also crossed the line making the first game a good win for Bowbrook, 24-12.

The next number of games proved themselves to be more challenging as St David’s attempted to play a very physical game of sevens and ran directly at the defence line. The game didn’t go our way in terms of results but some brave tackling from Myles, helped out with a slight nudge from teammate Tom, kept St David’s in touching distance with the score. Similarly in the rest of our pool games, Bowbrook were always in the fight but the final try and conversions ultimately saw us make our way through into the plate competition.

In the plate we were greeted in the first game by St David’s college once again, in what proved to be a very exciting game of 7’s. Myles showed his pace in space to open the try scoring, running around the Welsh side to score in the corner twice with Theo converting. With seconds to go on the clock Bowbrook looked to be in control with a 12-10 lead, but as the nature of sevens and rugby is, the bounce of a stray ball fell perfectly to a St David’s player who scored in the last play to make the score 12-15.

A tough result for the boys to take in the final game, who ended the day taking home bronze medals in the plate competition, but they should all be hugely proud of the way they played against some very experienced opposition and where we finished at the end of the competition, with some great examples of running rugby on display.

Also, thank you very much to The Vale Golf and Country Club who have kindly sponsored our new senior rugby kit. The team looked very smart wearing the new shirts and we all very much appreciate your sponsorship and support.

Students should check the PE notice board to see if they are involved in fixtures.
