Arts Week: 

What a great way to end the half-term! 

My thanks go to all staff who have gone the extra mile in organising events this week. From China Day on Monday to Bowbrook’s Got Talent on Wednesday to the Curriculum Alive Day today. Poetry Slam, the World’s Smallest Natural History Museum, Bollywood workshop, the Golden Ratio, Drama improv and so much more! 

Other competitions from design a mythical monster, photography, animation, poetry, short stories are yet to be collated and displayed. So we still have that to look forward to. 

Today the enthusiasm, the vertical grouping, the empathy and the manners were an absolute pleasure to see. Several of our guests commented on how inclusive and ‘safe’ the pupils were in expressing themselves and putting themselves out of their comfort zone. 

A more ‘in depth’ report will follow and we start next half-term with assemblies to celebrate the diverse talent and experiences of this week. 

Thank you in particular to Mrs Mellor for ‘coordinating’ the whole week! 

P.s. I heard a Wispa that: £420 was raised by Wispa and Do-nut delay campaign for the Maggs day Centre and this will be donated after half term along with our piece of community art for display.

News from the Prep School 

Wow… what a week we have had in the Prep School. From trips to the MAD museum for our younger pupils to a Chinese Workshop for our older pupils. Everyone has fully engaged in Arts Week… creating, constructing and collaborating.  The pupils have worked with clay, glass painting, mosaics, built wooden toys, drama, made movies and many from the Prep School were contestants in Bowbrook’s Got Talent – congratulations to everyone for such an amazing week. A special thank you to all of the Prep Staff for all their hard work and effort in making the week such a success. 

Our Star Pupils are: 

N – Hudson Hartell for thinking of others. 

R – Roux Moss for a good effort in his reading. 

I1 – George Peacop for super listening and engaging in the school trip 

I2 – Ariel Lewsey for making a great mechanical kit from the trip. 

J3 – Aadil Haque for being creative and imaginative in Arts Week. 

J4 – Anna Judge for always tackling new tasks with curiosity. 

J5 – Maria Parkes for getting stuck into the spirit of Arts Week. 

6NS – Alfie Birch for being incredibly kind and supportive to his peers. 

6SR – Aisha Haque for always giving 100% effort.

PE Department News. 

U13’s Rugby 7’s Tournament 

A second rugby 7’s tournament at Bowbrook saw the U13’s team welcome Bredon, Heathfield, and Tettenhall College, for a rugby filled afternoon. 

First the Bowbrook boys faced Bredon, in what would be their third encounter of the year, and both teams faced the initial shock of how fast rugby 7’s is as a game. A strong kick off from Bowbrook saw the boys jump straight into an arm wrestle and they piled the pressure onto the Bredon team. Tackling plays a much stronger role in 7’s and this showed in the first few minutes as 2 missed tackles resulted in 2 Bredon tries. Bowbrook kept working hard in defence and their hard work was rewarded when Bowbrook Captain, Ollie, made an 80-meter run before being brought down in the Bredon 22, with Cameron, making a great supporting line, receiving an offload and scoring the first try of the day for Bowbrook. A tough first game, resulting in a loss, but a good insight to rugby 7’s and positive start to the day. 

Secondly, Bowbrook faced Tettenhall College, who started the game with a long kick deep into Bowbrook territory and put pressure onto the attack to stay in the Bowbrook half. A tough lesson in defence was taught in this game as TC moved the ball quickly in a line and the Bowbrook defensive line was stretched across the pitch. Bowbrook finished the game on a high with a powerful run from Harry Ch, setting Ollie up for his first try of the day. A second loss but an improving performance as Bowbrook steadied themselves for the final match of the day. 

The final game was against Heathfield, who made the Bowbrook team stay on their toes with a quick try from the first kick of the game. Following from this the Bowbrook team realised that if they kept the ball then the other team couldn’t score. Possession firmly stayed in Bowbrook’s hands with Cameron adding two more scores to his try tally, Ollie scoring a try, and support play rewarded for Harry Ch with his first try scored for Bowbrook. By far Bowbrook’s strongest performance of the day with powerful carries from Josh, strong tackles from Archie and Harry Cl, and support play better all round, resulted in a 28-14 win and the Bowbrook boys finishing the day on a high note.  

Well done to all who participated and thank you to all schools who journeyed to us for the afternoon.
