1 more host family needed:
Unfortunately, one of our families is now unable to host, so young Timothee Rose currently is in need of a room from the 8th – 12th May.
Thank you to all those who have completed their DBS forms and to those who have made payments. Our return Channel Tunnel crossing has been booked and travel insurance is in place. The first £100 should now have been paid with a second due at the end of March. Earlier payments would be welcome as this would allow me to make other reservations for our trip. When these are in place, I will be able to give out a detailed itinerary.
I intend to hold a meeting after half-term to discuss hosting and the itinerary for our visit.

ARTS WEEK!
It’s Arts Week next week…
The school is a buzz with rehearsals and competitions from film making to songs in a foreign language. So many opportunities to enter and to excel. Every pupil should have entered at least two competitions and Year 11 at least one. The standard already looks high if the photographs I have received are anything to go by… Good luck to all the pupils for a productive, educational and fun Arts Week!
Saturday 11th Feb. Family Art morning:
As part of our Arts week, we will be holding a Family Art morning for children from Nursery to J6 on Saturday 11th February. Families are invited to drop in and join us for a morning of art activities between 10am and 12 noon. As it is an event for families we ask that parents stay and join in the activities with the children. Friends and family are also welcome!

Wispa Campaign:
To tie in with an arts week project which Mrs Mellor has been running on the theme of community, diversity and inclusivity we would like to raise a little money for the Maggs Day Centre.
Throughout next week students will be able to support this venture by coming to see Mrs Farr in Q4 with £1 and send a ‘wispa’ to someone telling them how fab they are.
These will be delivered on Monday 13th February in the morning and I am sure will raise a smile or 200 and start Arts week off sweetly!
'Wednesday is Do-Not-Delay by a doughnut today'
For £1 and to keep them excited about arts week the Prefects will be selling donughts at break time to raise funds for Maggs.
News from the Prep School
It was 6NS’s turn this week to take our Prep assembly. The message from them was all about being creative and that everybody can be creative in their own way. This was a super introduction to Arts Week next week.
The Star Pupils are;

- I1 - Adam Haines for taking on an independent maths challenge.
- I2 - Francesca Siviter for a super drama performance.

- J5 - Luke Drakeley for effort and honesty in his poem about fears.
- 6NS - Olivia Bille for making fantastic progress in maths.
- 6SR - Daniel Turberville-Tully for his Macbeth Monologue.

We also commended Penny Heaume for gaining her Grade 2 Trampolining badge and certificate.
I hope to see some of you at our Arts morning this Saturday 10.00 – 12.00 in the school hall, do bring a friend along too.

Science S10 – The University of Birmingham Masterclass
A group of Year 10 Science pupils visited The University of Birmingham this week to attend a masterclass which was being held by the Department of Materials Science.
Having travelled by train they enjoyed a walk through campus from the station and arrived at the department ready to learn about hydrogen fuel technology.
An enthusiastic PhD student give a short presentation about hydrogen storage and the future of this type of fuel, giving an overview of her interesting research in this area.
BBHS pupils then spent the remainder of the session carrying out a series of practicals designed to enhance their understanding of this technology.
A great introduction to University and scientific research.
Music Extra-Curricular:
Please note that there will be a slightly altered timetable next week due to Arts Week events. Rock Band will not run on Wednesday and neither will Upper Chamber Choir during Friday lunch time. Ukulele Group lessons will also not run on Wednesday .
Lower Chamber Choir and Orchestra can run as normal.
Instrumental Lessons: As per instrumental timetables, lessons will not run next week and will begin again after the half term.
Music Star of the Week: Charlie Williams in 7MW for his excellent progress at the keyboard; reading and playing Pachelbel’s Canon melody accurately and smoothly. Well done Charlie!

It has been a very busy week of sport at Bowbrook!
U13’s Football vs Pershore
On Tuesday, the U13’s football team took the field away to Pershore High School. From the first whistle, the Bowbrook team found themselves under pressure and were forced to defend deep into their half as Pershore moved the ball around the field. Some good pieces of defending, with players getting in the way of attackers, halted the initial attack from Pershore, but, as Pershore took more and more shots, goals began to get conceded.
Resilience was hugely on show from the Bowbrook team, as the boys kept their heads high, even after conceding, working tirelessly to get the ball back into their possession and play in the right areas of the field. They were rewarded with this Harry C made an important tackle in the middle of the field, that Toby gathered. He then played a lovely through ball for Tapi to chase. Tapi hit it with the first touch and the keepers save saw the ball land at Harry R’s feet who put the ball into the back of the net for Bowbrook’s goal in the second half.
A tough game for the team to play in but experience gained for a lot of players who are less experienced footballers and lots of players deserving mentions of their performances, especially our goalkeeper, Tom, who worked relentlessly in parrying away the vast number of shots against his goal, pulling of very good saves in a large goal. Thank you to all who represented the school in this fixture.
U11’s Netball vs RGS Springfield
The U11s enjoyed a fun afternoon of netball against RGS Springfield on Tuesday. The girls split into two teams and were able to experience different positions on the court.
The first match saw Penny H score her first ever Bowbrook goal, straight after being hit in the nose with a rogue pass. She showed great resilience carrying on and encouraged the younger players throughout the match. Harriet S brought the game home with a further 2 goals making it Bowbrook 2, RGS 1. The second game featured lots of goal scorers with Jasmine W, Maria P and Rosalie B all making the list. Ayla W managed an impressive 4 goals herself as Harper H was a pocket rocket in the centre. Final score 7-0 to Bowbrook. Well done to all who represented the school brilliantly.
U15’s 7’s Rugby
Wednesday saw the return of rugby to Bowbrook this term with the U15’s playing in a triangular 7’s competition against Heathfield and Tettenhall College. After a good contact warm up, and a quick run through of the differences between 7’s and 15 a side rugby the team took to the field against Heathfield in their first game.
The game started immediately at a high intensity with both teams wanting to assert physical dominance over each other from the first whistle. Bowbrook ran a very direct game, trying to out muscle their opponents and quickly found the try line. Heathfield responded with a try of their own and throughout the game the teams traded try for try. With seconds left on the clock Edward broke the deadlock between the teams as he danced through the defence to dot down the winning try for Bowbrook, the final score 22-17 to Bowbrook.
In the second game the boys resumed normal practice, playing with high intensity and wanting to out muscle their opposition. Tettenhall parried away Bowbrook’s attacks early on but they eventually succumbed to pressure as Luca powered his way over for the first try of the game. Tettenhall soon responded a try of their own and the first half resulted in a close score line of 17-12 to Bowbrook. Fitness told in the second half and the Bowbrook team began to run away with the game, as Sid ran in a couple of tries from his own half with Luca adding the conversions. The final score 29-12 to Bowbrook.
Well done to all who took part in the games and thank you for being such respectable hosts to the schools who visited us for the afternoon.
U16’s Football vs Kingham Hill
Bowbrook had a shaky start despite having the majority of possession. Kingham counter attacked quickly and scored first. They quickly doubled their lead and added a third despite the best efforts of Tristan M, playing his first competitive game for Bowbrook, Ashton C, Oli R and captain Jack P. Ethan C and Eoin C were playing out of position to help the team. The first half ended with pressure from Bowbrook and a goal from Troy J.
Changes were made at half time to add Giovanni B, Seb B and Tom S. Bowbrook started the second half quickly with Findley M using his speed to win a penalty which Noah S scored. Findley quickly added a third to level the scores ten minutes into the second half. Bowbrook remained dominant adding two more goals, one from Ailbhe C and a second for Troy to make it 5-3 but Kingham quickly struck back to make it 5-4 and a tense last few minutes followed. A tremendous strike from Ethan W and a screamer from Ailbhe just inside the Kingham half, put the game out of reach ending the match 7-4 to Bowbrook adding to the U16’s streak of wins.
In what seemed like an uphill struggle at half time forced the lads to dig deep and play with determination.

U13’s Football vs Arnold Lodge
Finally, Arnold Lodge managed to make their way to play the Bowbrook U13 Football team. After a rough match on Tuesday the boys were looking forward to a more gentile game…how wrong. Arnold Lodge came out fighting putting many through balls into the area and managing to finish a few. Bowbrook were holding their formation and neutralising many attacks. Tom R saved a late penalty to hold the score at 2-0 to Arnold.
Coming into the second half the boys had some work to do. Harry R slotted in a goal to raise their hopes. This only fired up Arnold Lodge even more and they managed another brace of goals.
The match ended 5-1 to Arnold lodge but the lads were playing better football and using the pitch well. Great game boys!
U13’s Netball vs Bredon
The sun was shining for the U13 Netball match v Bredon on Thursday afternoon.
The girls made a steady start with Poppy Arnold and Amelia Speers making a great combination in the shooting circle.
At half time Bowbrook were leading 6-1.
Ellen Bicknell and Eleanor Wright grew in confidence and both made some super interceptions in defence.
Felicity Moore worked her socks off in centre court and was supported by Ellie Dean. Erin Grant swapped in to shoot in the second half with some excellent shooting.
Final score an impressive 15-3 win.

U12’s Netball vs Bredon
A fantastic 17:4 win for the Under 12 netball team against Bredon. Grace (GS) and Zoe (GA) were on fire scoring 17 nets between them, working well together in the attacking third.
The defence were strong only conceding 4 nets in total. Molly (GK) and Isabella (GD) marked the opposition well, making it hard for them to score.
The passing was strong and the whole team worked well together, finding space and moving the ball up court.
A special mention to Olivia (C) on earning player of the match. Her interceptions and movement off the ball were fantastic. She worked well on the edge of our attacking D, passing the ball back and forth to our shooters.
A great game and a good final score for Bowbrook. Well done to everyone involved.
