Welcome back!

Welcome back to what promises to be an exciting and busy half term with opportunities abundant for those who want to contribute positively to school life or challenge themselves. 

Attached and herein are details of 3 competitions which are open to all – an ISA Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths competition (attached) as well as logo and marketing design for our upcoming performance of Oliver! 

Fixtures, rehearsals, peripatetic lessons, activity afternoons, nativity preparation, STEM activities and house competitions no name but a few are all on the agenda in the next few weeks as we approach the festive season!  We are hoping to see the a return to the Abbey for a Christmas Carol Service but indications are that this will likely be a more restricted affair, so safe and alternative arrangements are being sought to ensure all phases of the school are involved in a carol service,  if not all at the same time and same venue.  More details to follow…

With that in mind, it is clear that COVID-19 rates are rising locally.  We continue to follow our system of controls to reduce transmission but we do have some cases in student body and their families following half term.  Thankfully these were picked up by LFT before returning to school.  It really is a good way of lessening the impact on education so thank you to those that continuously and consistently return results.  Below are the figures:

Competition time!!!

A reminder please for parents and visitors to the school, please can we ask that you wear masks if you are in or around the site for any reason.  Specifically, Infant parents who are picking up and dropping off, although you are outside there is still passing with students and meeting together so our preference is that masks are worn.

A reminder about some up and coming competitions.

Competition 1……

We would like to invite all of our pupils to design a LOGO for our production of Oliver. A simple but effective picture which sums up what the production is all about. This example might get you thinking!

Competition 2……….

Design a poster for our Oliver production. ( a scene from the story would be perfect).
This needs to be colourful and clear and made on A4 size paper.
ENTRIES TO BE COMPLETED BY 1st December. PRIZES WILL BE AWARDED FOR OUR WINNERS. HAVE FUN!

CAN YOU HELP???? Wood would be good!

We are busy planning a super set design for the forthcoming ‘Oliver’ production. We would be really grateful if anyone is prepared to donate unwanted wood for our set build. Any unwanted palettes would be very welcome as well as any offcuts from gazebo or pergolas that may be no longer required. The wood doesn’t need to be very tidy as we will be getting our set design team to paint this up with us.

News from the Prep School 

Welcome back to a busy and exciting half term. The return saw pupils from Years 4, 5, & 6 set off to represent the Prep School in the ISA Swimming gala – congratulations to everybody that took part. 

We welcomed Mrs. Kimberlee to our Prep assembly on Thursday afternoon and thanked her for her interesting talk about Dyslexia. So many talented and intelligent famous people have dyslexia and the message was to celebrate all that we can do and achieve to the best of our potential.

A polite reminder please to Infant parents that we would like you to continue to wear masks as you move around our school, we are keen to keep our community as safe as possible and need to work together to ensure this. Thank you.

News from the Middle and Senior School 

RS- Ms Govin 

Well done to Brooke Taylor, Vanessa Bille, Connor Sheridan, and Grace Wakley who produced some stunning pieces of art in RS on the ‘Fall of Adam and Eve‘. Each piece was beautifully presented through different mediums.  A super effort and images attached. 


Music Department News

Music Stars: I was delighted to watch a recording of a very spooky ‘Halloween’ composition which Louis and Julia Marien in our prep school have composed. Thank you both for sharing this with us; it was wonderful and frightening all at the same time! 

Miss Smith’s Music stars: Miss Smith would like congratulate her music stars for this half term. These students have made excellent progress and deserve much praise. In N/R Alessia Carenza, I1 Daniela Bille, I2 Aadil Haque, J3 Adam Baker and J4 Julia Marien. Very well done indeed! 

Carol Service: We are hoping to be able to hold our annual Carol Service this year at Pershore Abbey on Thursday 9th December. Rehearsals are in full swing and we will soon share our plans with you once they are confirmed. It essential that musicians and vocalists give 100% attendance now to all rehearsals, thank you. 

Instrumental: Instrumental lessons have begun this week and students should now have their individual timetables. Please let me know if your child has not received theirs. It is important that they note down the dates and times of each lessons each week in to their planner. Please also be aware that there are several catch up sessions scheduled with Mrs Corton and Mr Jones; please see timetable for more details. 

Extra-Curricular: There has been a change to the rehearsal days of Ukulele Club for this term. BUG for J5&6 will take place this term on a Wednesday at 12.30 in the main hall and BUG for J3&4 will be taking place on a Friday, again at 12.30 in the main hall. 

Drumming Group: Towards the end of last term, middle and senior school drummers were invited to join Mr Booton in a Drumming Group. This club is scheduled to begin next week and will run for the next three Thursdays for this half term at 1pm in the music room. Please could reply slips for this club be returned ASAP, thank you.

Fixture and results

ISA Junior Swimming

On the 4th of November a team of 12 junior school students travelled to Walsall Gala Baths to take compete in the ISA Midland Junior Swimming Gala. Star of the day was Evie R who won her heat in the 25m breaststroke but on times over all the heats she came a creditable 2nd which effectively makes her first reserve for the Midland medley relay team at the national event at the London Olympic Park pool. This is a fantastic result for her in what was the strongest display of competitors we have seen for a while given the restricted numbers at the pool and many schools only bringing club swimmers. 

Other notable performances were Toby Bennett who won his heat in the breaststroke, Felicity Moore who was 2nd in her breaststroke heat, Poppy Stokes who was 2nd in her breaststroke heat and Zoe Mudd who came 2nd in her backstroke heat.

ISA Junior Swimming Gala Results 

National Qualifier

Hearty congratulations to Josh W of year 10 who has once again qualified for the ISA national swimming event to be held at London Olympic Park Swimming Pool later this month.  He narrowly missed out in the individual events of butterfly and backstroke but has qualified for the freestyle relay team.  This is an exciting opportunity and an excellent achievement.  Well done, Josh!
