  • Rags 2 Riches clothes collection Tuesday 19th at 10.00 a.m. 
  • Year 10 Parents’ Evening Thursday 21st by Zoom starting at 6.30 p.m. 
  • Prep School STEM day Friday 22nd October. 
  • Half term effort grades Years 7 – 11 issued. 
  • Break for half term. Normal time. 22nd October. 

Rags 2 Riches collection is next Tuesday in the morning. 
Please drop off bags of clothes, bedding, curtains either anytime on Monday 18th or first thing Tuesday 19th. The collection will be at 10.00 a.m. on the 19th. Leave the bags behind the railings outside the music room.

All proceeds go to the Parents’ Committee who have just bought lots of excellent camping equipment to get 

the D of E Award Scheme up and running. The Year 9s are using the equipment tonight to camp out and cook at school as a practice expedition. They are setting up their stoves at this very moment…having just completed a 7.5 mile hike! Good luck tonight Mr Bell!

Oliver!  
We are in awe of the wealth of talented pupils we have here at Bowbrook and we are delighted to announce who has been cast for the school production. In this Covid-era, we are making sure that ‘the show can go on’ by having two actors per principal part ‘just in case’ one is taken ill. However, as both actors will each learn their role and work hard, they will have equal stage time when we perform the production next March.  

Well done to everyone who has auditioned and been cast in Oliver! . We are very much looking forward to working with you on this exciting play. 

We need a logo for Bowbrook’s production of Oliver! Look out for further details in the near future of the competition to design a logo and artwork which we will use in the production. If you want to get a head start, start drawing and include a reference or references to Dickens’s story of Oliver Twist.

Music enews 
I would like to praise Oliver in 8MW this week for his contribution to Orchestra. Oliver was tasked with playing a very large xylophone from scratch to complement our Christmas piece. He took to the instrument very quickly indeed; well done Oliver. He has also built and crafted his own full drum kit at home out of empty coffee pots and plastic tubs as part of his ‘Junk Percussion’ homework. A superb effort! 

I would also like to praise and welcome Olivia in Year 11 who joined us at Orchestra this week as part of the first violin section. It was lovely to have you with us Olivia and you played beautifully.  

Instrumental: Many apologies as Mrs Corton our violin and piano teacher has been unwell this week. All lessons will be made up before the end of the Autumn term. Thank you for your understanding.

School Council:
A huge congratulations to the students who were voted in to represent their forms on the School Council. Thank you very much to all students who had the courage to put themselves forward and spoke in front of their peers – not an easy task by any means. 

The representatives from the Upper School are Chloe, Nancy, Myles, Cyrilla, Tom, Seb, Alex, Tom, Aaryan, Arya, Capucine, Oscar, Lottie, Isla and Olivia. 

The Upper School council has had a training session and their first formal meeting, with another meeting planned for next week, along with a get-together with the Prep School Council. They already have plans in place and we look forward to exciting things to come from them!

News from the Prep School. 

What a busy week in the Prep School.

Nursery and Reception visited Avoncroft museum to look at all the different styles of houses to support their topic and then they presented a fantastic assembly on Thursday showing all their hard work on the topic of ‘Homes’ – well done and thank you.

Year 6 had a very memorable trip to Weston Park in Shropshire on Wednesday which enriched our History studies on WWII and outdoor learning. The highlight for the day was possibly during the afternoon, where the children developed great team building skills building shelters, bug hotels, toasting marshmallows and making popcorn over the campfire. The pupils were all commended by the course leader on their exemplary behaviour and fantastic approach to the set tasks – well done Year 6. 

This week our Star Pupils are: 

  • N – Quinn, for being super on the school trip. 
  • R – George, for joining in well with all the activities. 
  • I1 – Francesca, for working really hard at all she does. 
  • I2 – Summer, for doing super maths. 
  • J3 – William, for bring a good friend. 
  • J4 – Sebastian, for working really hard all week. 
  • 5NS – Bea M, for working incredibly hard in all her lessons. 
  • 5KT/SW – Charlotte M, for continued effort and perseverance in class. 
  • 6SR – Lilybelle, for her enthusiasm to learning on our school trip.

Fixture and results 

U16 Netball 

The senior girls had a successful match against Heathfield School last week. After a slow start drawing 2-2 at the end of the first quarter they finally found pace and Lottie Wilkinson scored 4 goals with some accurate feeding into the circle from Molly and Holly.  

Frankie and Jasmine were working hard in the defensive circle making it difficult for Heathfield to score. Full time score 13-4  

Player of the match nominated by Heathfield was: Molly. 

U16 Rugby – Cancelled by Bredon 

ISA Senior Swimming 

Very well done to all involved in the ISA swimming on Thursday this week.  It is an event we as a school organise and we are pleased to say it went off very well.  Due to COVID there were restrictions in numbers which made the event much more exclusive (rather than the inclusive event it often is) so the competition was fierce and the standards very high with many participants being club swimmers.  The results are yet to be confirmed and we will release details when they are but we are proud of all who put themselves forwards and well done on your performances.  

U13 Hockey v Kingham Hill 

The Year 7&8 girls travelled to Kingham Hill School in the Cotswolds on Tuesday.  

Kingham got off to a flying start scoring two goals in the first five minutes. Bowbrook defence were taken by surprise but stood firm. Farrah and Lottie made some fantastic tackles and cleared the ball well but Bowbrook just lacked pace to get down the pitch. Lottie, Sofia and Izzie playing up front did not give up and in the second half, Sofia scored a well earned goal. Lottie Fairchild was close to scoring a second but was disallowed due to an infringement in the D.  Final Score 5-1 Kingham Hill
