Another beautiful week weather wise, a very successful Open Day on Friday – my sincere thanks to my senior pupils who were superb in showing guests round. More fixtures, rehearsals and music practices… a lovely busy and productive week!

But…Testing:

We currently have confirmed cases in Years 7, 8, 10 and Year 11 and amongst parents. Please remember to test on a Sunday and Wednsday night and report your results. The last thing I want to do is to shut year groups and return to remote learning. 

An average of a 50% return rate from pupils/parents make me think that we are becoming too casual about precautions.

Also:
Operation Encompass. West Mercia Constabulary: 
The Local Authority has requested that we notify you of our involvement in Operation Encompass and attach a letter outlining the details.

The letter (attached) comes with a list of support services and their contact details which are available to the community.

Rags to Riches collection. Raise money for your school: 

On FRIDAY 19th OCTOBER 2021 at 9am – Rags 2 Riches for schools will be making collection at school, so please support it again and now more than ever these clothes and items are desperately needed.

Minecraft:
Can I also draw your attention to the attachment to the ENews about being safe when playing the on-line game of Minecraft. I know that many of our Prep pupils enjoy this game but they should have an awareness of being safe whilst playing, as with any other on-line games.

Oliver News:

The production for 2022 of Oliver has now been launched with the children and the school is buzzing with students who are deciding how they wish to be involved. 

There is a noticeboard with all of the information they need outside the staff room. 

Our performances will be in March 2021. (keep the w/c 28th March clear!) Rehearsals will take place in lunchtimes but there will be an after school commitment on Thursdays as we get closer to the production. The support materials for anyone interested is on Bowbrook Study.  

Our auditions begin next week. There are sign-up sheets on the noticeboard so that pupils can book an audition time slot.  

Auditions will take place on Tuesday, 28th, Thursday, 30th and Friday, 1st October at lunchtime.  

Those auditioning for Fagin’s gang, the Workhouse Urchins, Pub People or Londoners will be asked to sing a verse and a chorus of ‘Consider Yourself’ which the Prep School learnt for the Summer Concert. Other pupils can access this on Bowbrook Study. We will audition them in groups next week.  

Once parts have been assigned. We will be expecting 100% commitment to learning their roles and attending.  

Putting yourself forward for a part is brilliant. There is a lot of interest in the parts this year. Don’t be disappointed if you don’t get the part you hoped for. There will still be an opportunity to be on stage. There are lots of “off stage” roles, too.  

Pupils or parents who need any extra information can ask or email Mrs Heaume, Mrs Izod or Mrs Mellor.  

We are all very excited about getting going. We are going to have such a lot of fun!

Fixture and results 

U16 Rugby V Bredon and Malvern College 

The U16 team travelled to Malvern for a triangular for their first game of rugby in 2 years.  It was very much an adapted game with safety at its core with uncontested scrums and lineouts and 12 a side rather than 15.  Our first game was against Bredon who have their strongest team in quite a few years and some quite large individuals!  We held our own in the first half, only conceding a single try but they began to use their considerable forwards to good effect to break through our defence 3 times in the second half making the final score 20-0. 

The boys, undeterred, fought hard in our second game with Malvern College.  It was a much closer game but Malvern struck first with a good break against the run of play.  Bowbrook then began to protect the ball better in contact and move the ball around leading to a break from Archie W to score under the posts.  The try was duly converted by Jack P.  A second break came from some excellent work at the ruck and was scored by Jack P.  Again, this was converted on the final whistle by Jack P taking the final score to 14-5 to Bowbrook. 

In all a great afternoon of challenging rugby.  All the team put in monumental efforts and all deserve recognition but special mentions to Ed B and Aaryan A who made some huge tackles and  Eoin C & Ailbhe C who were great and moving the ball away from contact.   Well done to all involved and thank you for your efforts.   

U14 ISA Football 

Match report to be included in next week’s e-news but suffice to say, they did pretty well! 

U11 Mixed Hockey v Bredon School  

A mix of Year 5&6 enjoyed their first experience of a competitive hockey match on Monday 20thSeptember. We played 4 x 10 minute quarters to give lots of opportunity to swap positions on the pitch.  

All the players did extremely well and there were many goals scored for both sides making it an exciting game.  

Bowbrook started well and Felicity and Lucca scored in the first 10 minutes. Toby and Tai kept a strong defence, with Penny in midfield.  

In the second quarter, Bredon came back with one goal just before half time.  

Josh, Poppy and Isabella worked effectively in midfield but Bredon came back strong scoring two goals quickly. With a team talk from Miss Tait and changes of position, Bowbrook came into the last quarter leading at 4-3.   

Lucca and Toby then both scored great goals, and in turn, Bredon came back with force quickly scoring two more goals. Tom worked hard covering the whole pitch supporting in defence and attack.  Bowbrook thought they had done enough to keep their lead but in the final seconds of the game Bredon scored! 

Final score 6-6  

U16 ISA Netball tournament  
The senior girls travelled to St Dominic’s School in Staffordshire on Tuesday 21st September.

They started with two tough matches against a strong opposition but the Jasmine, Helena and Frankie kept working hard in defence.  

We made some changes before the next match against Loughborough Amhesrt. Holly and Lottie made a good combination in mid court and with seconds to spare at the end of the game Bowbrook scored to secure a 5-5 draw. The match of the day versus Priory School Edgbaston was a competitive as both teams were equally matched. Nell provided good support up the court and finished the day on a 6-5 win.  

U11 Hockey V Holy Redeemer  

Tuesday 21st September Bowbrook played Holy Redeemer in U11 Hockey. The weather was glorious and it was nice to see some parents spectating on the side. The girls were ready and in formation at the start of the whistle and it took Holy Redeemer players by surprise. An early goal from Felicity was brilliant to watch and by the end of the first quarter it was 2-1 to Bowbrook. The girls worked well as a team and each knew which position they were playing in; Rosie, Amelie and Zoe worked well in defence together to try and stop the opponents from scoring. Our forward players consisted of Poppy, Felicity and Isabella. They were a real force to be reckoned with and the score after 3rd quarter was 4-3 to Bowbrook. Unfortunately, in the last quarter Holy Redeemer managed to score 2 more goals and take the win. However, every player should be proud of how the played and worked as team. Player of the match was Poppy. 

Cricket honours: 

Following the Overbury Cricket Club: Congratulations to James who won two awards in his year group… Bowling Award u13’s, Player of the Year u13’s. James also had the 2nd best bowling figures in the mens’ 2nd Team. He has recently attended trials for Gloucestershire Cricket… waiting to hear. Well done young man!
