Autumn Term – E news 10.09.21

Attached:

This Week for wc 13.01.21
Team sheets for U16 Football (downloads straight to your computer)
Team sheets for U14 Rugby. (downloads straight to your computer)
PE & Games kit clarification.
Staff this week.

Testing Testing:

We are now 100% LFT results in for teachers this week. We have had positive tests which were subsequently confirmed by PCR we have had individuals having to isolate in Years 8, 7 and 4. Otherwise seemingly healthy pupils but obviously carrying covid. It would appear to be the situation that we are going to have to live with for a while.

Years 7 – 11 have been issued with more kits if they needed/wanted them. Parents are requested to test twice weekly and report their LFT results to school on Monday and Thursday each week.

Any pupil showing any of the ‘classic’ symptoms or any pupil who has tested positive on an LFT must not come to school and must book a PCR. Report your results to: Results@bowbrookhouseschool.co.uk

In better news:
Prefects:

Congratulations to the following S11 pupils:

Capucine Cragg-Domanski. Trafalgar.
Arya Govin. Waterloo.
Oscar Murray. Blenheim.
Isla Neale. Trafalgar.
Charlotte Wilkinson. Hastings.

They spoke well at their ‘hustings’ and the votes of all pupils from years 6 – 11 together with staff votes has given us a good selection of school Prefects. I am sure they will do a splendid job in representing the school this year.

Staff:

Congratulations also to the following staff:

Mr Socket is now a qualified Play Therapist
Mrs Wilson is now a Level 3 Counsellor
Mrs Chamberlain has passed her induction and has now achieved ‘Qualified teacher status’.

Very proud of them and for what they ‘add’ to the school. Well done!

Jeans for Genes:
Years 7 – 11. Friday 17th September: £1 to wear your jeans to school. Bring at least £1 for the cake sale. Jeans for Genes is a regular charity supporting research into genetic disorders and into supporting individuals and families. Please feel free to donate more if you wish! The prefects will lead S11 in an assembly next Tuesday.

A word from the Office:
The school photographer is here on Tuesday 14th. Smartest uniform etc please!
A few families have not yet returned the pupil information sheet to confirm the contact details we hold are correct.
A few Year 8 pupils need to return the HPV Vaccination consent forms on  Monday – they must be returned even if they wish to decline the vaccination

A word from Learning Support:

Enews from BLaST
After a few tweaks Support lessons are now confirmed and running. Pupils in the first instance will be notified either personally or via their Form Tutors.  Prep school pupils will be collected and/or reminded by class teachers.  Please do email Mrs Kimberlee if you have any questions regarding this.

Private Assessors/Practitioners:  Please note that Mrs Kimberlee as school SENDCo, will arrange any assessments/observations that need to take place within school. Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate individual Private Assessors. If parents have concerns or would like to discuss the need for further assessment please email Mrs Kimberlee to arrange a meeting: L.kimberlee@bowbrookhouseschool.co.uk

Music e-news

Instrumental Lessons:
It has been lovely this week to hear music coming from our instrumental practise pods again. If your child has not received their instrumental timetable then please contact me and I shall ensure that one is sent home.

Extra-Curricular:
A reminder that our music extra-curricular activities begin next week starting with Chamber Choir on Monday after School between 4-5 in the main hall. There is still an opportunity to audition next Tuesday lunch time in the music room. If your child has been invited to join, then please could I ask you to return the reply slip at the bottom of the Chamber Letter ASAP, thank you. All parents, staff and friends of the school are also welcome to join us!

Ukulele Club will also begin next Friday in the main hall for our Junior School. Please remember to return the reply slip attached to the bottom of the Ukulele Club to me ASAP if your child would like to be involved this term. Children do not need to own a ukulele but can of course bring their own along if they wish, neither do they need to have played before.

Stars of the Week:
We would like to congratulate Laura Harding in Year 9 for achieving a very high ‘Distinction’ for her Grade 5 Singing exam and Joshua Laws in Year 8 for achieving a ‘Merit’ for his Grade 3 Musical Theatre exam. This is excellent news indeed; well done to you both!

Mrs Izod

New Parents meet the staff:

In addition, all parents new to the school are invited to meet the teaching staff next Thursday 16th September between 4.15 and 5.00 p.m. This is an informal ‘chat’ and enables you to put faces to names and find out how they have settled in in their first two weeks. It is also open to Year 7 parents who are new to the middle school system and would like to meet the teaching staff. This is a socially distanced even held in the marquee.

For planning and for health and safety please inform Mrs Hodgson if you are attending. Thank you.

(no ‘e’ in Hodgson – my mistake earlier in the week)

R – Elina Woodward – for a fantastic start.
I1 – Indigo Hudson-Page – for being a super role model.
I2 – Aadil Haque – for a brilliant start.
J3 – Jack Jones – for being kind and polite.
J4 – Julia Marien – for a brilliant start.
5NS – Penny Mills – for being incredibly kind and helpful.
5KT/SW – Amelie Laws – for always doing the right thing and being a super role model.

Also in assembly we heard about Ombersley U11 ‘Clubman of the Year’ Luca D’Amore of Year 6. Well done young man! Please do let us know if they have ‘achieved’ out of school. We love to hear their news.

Congratulations to everyone.

We look forward to meeting all of our new parents to Bowbrook, next Thursday after school.

Mrs. Ridge

Finally a plea from Mrs A: Board Games:

Wanted board games in good condition: If pupils have board games ie snakes and ladders, ludo etc. that they no longer required. To donate them, as Mrs A is running a board games lunchtime club and would like to have a good selection.

Thank you
Mrs A

PE Department News.

Fixtures
We have some fixtures and tournaments beginning already next week so though it would be a good time to signpost some important information: Team Sheets will be posted on the PE Office Window for students to see a week in advance of fixtures. Team Sheets will be attached to the e-news each week for the following week.

Team sheets will contain details of the fixture including who is playing, where it is taking place, what is needed and any changes to pick up times/arrangements.

If your son or daughter is unable to play it is very important to let the teacher know well in advance of the fixture (24 hours before at the latest) so alternative arrangements can be made.

PE and Games Kit
Attached again is a pictorial guide to kit required for PE and games with some explanation.  If you are awaiting clothing then please put a note in your child’s diary so their PE/Game staff are aware.

Gum Shields and Shin Pads
For years 5 to 11, Gum Shields and shin pads are as equally important as shorts and socks and are not optional extras.  Gum shields can and will fit over braces and only on very rare occasions is this not possible and in such cases please contact your child’s games teacher to discuss.

Alternative Curriculum
In years 10 and 11 your child might be invited to the alternative games curriculum.  This is not compulsory and they can attend games instead if they wish.  It is also not something that students can individually opt into.  It is designed to offer an alternative avenue of exercise and experience for students who find the games activity in that particular term less accessible.  It is important that the alternative games curriculum doesn’t compete with the ability for students to represent in fixtures and tournaments.  If your child has been invited they will be given a letter in due course with details.

 Next Weeks Fixtures:
Students should check the PE notice board to see if they are involved in fixtures.

Wednesday  ISA U16 Football     Away (Letter given to those attending)
