It has not been an easy half term for any of us and the additional pressures of the pandemic and lockdown and the stresses and anxieties that this produces, have made things additionally difficult.

I would like to publicly thank all of my staff, from house and grounds, from admin to teaching, for their incredible efforts this term. I believe they have all gone above and beyond…I will also thank the pupils the vast majority of whom have adapted and on the whole, managed to stay focused right up to the end of today. Also, to you, the parent body, for your support throughout this enforced period of remote learning. Thank you and well done to you all.

News from the Prep School:

Collectively the Prep staff would like to say how very impressed we have been with the overall commitment to learning and the quality of the work we have received from everybody this half term.

A message from Mrs. Mao:

‘One of our key focus areas in our Literacy in Class 1/2 this half term has been handwriting. Year 1s have been working hard on using correct letter formation with relative size and Year 2s have worked on this with letter joins added in! I have been so impressed by the progress for every child and this has shown in their independent pieces of work, such as their stories of Goldilocks and the three bears and their letters to Sir David Attenborough. Well done all – you have all earned a handwriting certificate!’

Have a lovely half term holiday and a very well-deserved rest. Try to get out into the fresh air and away from your computer screens as much as possible and we look forward to hopefully welcoming everybody back into school sometime during the next half term.

Latin classes.
Year 8 have made a super start to the Entry Level Latin course and we have both

been very impressed with pupils’ attitudes and achievements.

Pupils have just completed their first vocabulary and translation tests, also making links between Latin and many of the English words we use today.

Well done to all pupils in Year 8CD who all achieved Passes, Merits and Distinctions:

The Big Parade:

We have bought a baby elephant, to go with our baby giraffe and in support of St Richard’s hospice. We now need a design for it.
Please use the PDF of the elephants attached for your design. Anyone who wishes might have a go next week.

Like the Worcester Stands Tall trail, the baby elephants and some much bigger adult elephants will all be on display around Worcester this summer and will form the elephant trail.
Will our elephant be sporting your design?

PE News:

As we go into half term break we need to keep those geocache photos coming in. Well done Evie and Oliver Rea but stars of the week are again Ben and Ed Clarke who have found an amazing amount of caches and will take some beating!

There is geocaching challenge for you to complete over the half term break it will involve friends and family from different parts of the country.

The challenge is how many new geocaches you can find across the UK. A video about the challenge is in PE & Games/February Remote Learning/Resources for remote fitness lessons/Geocache instruction video.

There are Prizes for:

Furthest away in the UK from Bowbrook House School postcode .
The most friends and family involved with photo evidence.

The ISA Limitless Skills competition is about to enter its 4th week and we still have no activities completed as a school. Mr Draper has been assigned a coach role within the app and can now add videos for you if you are unable to, just send him an email with the video attached and the description of the activity completed.

We have 20 players signed up so come on and complete those activities. They are very simple and not time consuming. There is a huge variety ranging from fun and games to athletics anywhere.
Use this break to take time away from your screens and enjoy the great outdoors… #outdoorsisfree

The PE Department

Music E news:

Mr Jones has been very pleased with the efforts and progress of Ailbhe Clarke in 9JR this week. He has shown an excellent understand TAB notation and is developing his chord work very well indeed. Well done Ailbhe. Miss Smith would like to share her music stars of the term. They are: Ruth Drakeley, Elena Svancara, Ayla Wood and Penny Mills. Very well done to all. I would also like to praise Chloe Mills in J6 for her super composition work over the past few weeks. She has gone above and beyond to develop her chord patterns and has composed a lovely sung melody above her composed accompaniment. Well done Chloe; this is developing very nicely.

Music Composition Competition: Why not take on Mrs Izod’s music challenge! Could you reflect upon our current circumstances? Student Challenge: Compose a piece of music about overcoming obstacles, adversity, hard times, challenges, hope, light and persevering. Send a positive message to your peers through music. Record and send your piece to Mrs Izod. This could be a song, accompanied or unaccompanied, a solo piece of music on your instrument, a piece on a keyboard at home. Ask your siblings or family members to take part or perhaps use some software on your computer. I look forward to hearing your pieces soon. Have fun! Mrs Izod. Cookery and Sharing Challenge:
