Bowbrook’s Summer of success in the Performing Arts!

This summer a number of Bowbrook pupils gained successes in exams with the London College of Music Musical Theatre for Singers.

Each song sung had to be introduced with the name of the Song, the date it was written the show it was taken from and the names of its composer and lyricist. All candidates had to perform unaccompanied vocal exercises and tongue twisters. Grades 1-5 require learning three songs, Grades 6-8 four songs plus an extract of script, all from memory
They then discuss with the examiner, why they chose the programme of songs, what story the song is telling, and in the more advanced grades what vocal techniques and dramatic techniques used, as well as some biographical knowledge of each composer. The grades 6-8 have UCAS point values such is the prestige!

Several of the pupils achieved ‘Distinctions’ and recorded some of the highest marks! To give a flavour…two contrasting journeys:

‘Evan started lessons, autumn 2025. To support GCSE. Took grade 4 summer 2026 distinction grade achieved. Is a member of my Youth Theatre ’Wymsical’ took part in Ruddigore, which he rehearsed in a week over the summer and is now working towards a revue at October half term and is playing Bob Cratchit in our Christmas performance.  Is now working towards grade 6.’

‘Harriet, started singing lessons in autmn 2023. To increase confidence. Initially not looking at taking an exam but this summer was brave enough to take her grade 2 and passed with a distinction. She’s now working towards her grade 3.’
And pupils continue to excel both in school and out with youth theatre groups:

Olivia started lessons 2023. Has taken her grade 4, 5 and 6 also getting a distinction grade this session. She’s a member of Wymsical took part in Ruddigore, which we rehearsed in a week over the summer, playing the part of Zora and singing some stratospheric notes, is working towards the October revue and is now playing Galinda in our Christmas show. She’s working towards Classical grade 5, and Musical Theatre Grade 7.

Isla, started lessons spring 2025, took Grade 4 last winter session and Grade 5 this session getting a distinction grade. She’s working towards is also a member of Wymsical also taking part in Ruddigore, and performing a trio with Olivia and Evan in the October revue and playing Dorothy in our Christmas show. She’s working towards grade 6.

It is a credit to the pupils and demonstrates the breadth and depth of talent that Bowbrook Pupils have,. We are very proud of all of them!
