Spring Term Newsletter Friday 28th February 2025

Bowbrook Newsletter

Arts week seems to have extended itself into the first week back after half-term!

A wonderful Music Showcase evening saw pupils from Year 3 up to GCSE Music students in Year 11 performing in the school hall. This was a low-key chance to perform in public and it was marvellous! From heavy rock to musicals to instrumentalists and duets… Such a breadth of talent in an inclusive and supportive environment. For some it was their first public performance…and it will not be their last!

A lovely, lovely evening. My thanks to all who took part or supported the event.

So a busy start to the second half of the Spring Term with much happening and much to look forward to:

Welcome to Bowbrook House School

French Exchange Update:

Thanks to everyone for supplying paperwork so that Mrs Ironside has been able to complete all the DBS applications. I intend to have a short meeting the week before our French partners arrive just in case there are any more questions or last-minute details. By all means contact me at school before then if you have a concern that needs more urgent consideration.

For those heading to France.
Thank you for the £150 deposits which were due on the 14th Feb. Please contact Mrs Hunt with payment if you have not yet done so. Please make the second payment (£100) by the 14th March so that I can go ahead with our bookings in France. Please make sure that your child has a valid passport and GHIC.

Not many weeks to go! (ETA 24th March; 16.30)

MUSIC NEWS:

Music Showcase

Congratulations to all of the musicians who took part in the ‘Arts Week’ Music showcase this week. It was a really enjoyable evening showcasing much talent and progress from across the whole school. Thank you to all of the students who have been practising so hard, to parents for their support and to our peripatetic teachers who have guided our musicians.

Thank you too to Mr Bell for all of his technical support. What a lovely evening!
Violin Lessons
Many apologies, there was a mistake on the violin timetables this week. Mr Neville will not be starting lessons again until next week.
Starting a new instrument?
If your child is interested in beginning a new instrument, then please email me so that I can send a letter home offering more information or, ask your child to collect one from me, thank you.

News from your Parents’ Committee:

PC Book Fayre:  6th-10th March at 3:30-4:30pm

We will be holding another Scholastic Book Fayre on 6th-10th March at 3:30-4:30pm in the school hall. A range of new books for all ages will be available to purchase so please come along and have a browse.  Payment can be made using cash or via QR code at the Fayre. Alternatively, gift vouchers can be purchased in advance from
https://bookfairs.scholastic.co.uk/gift-vouchers

The more books we sell, the more reward points the school earns. These rewards can then be used to purchase new books for school.  We last held a Fayre in November 2023, raising nearly £500 for new books which are now being enjoyed by pupils in all year groups.

Chocolate Bingo. Friday 28th March:
Ticket request will be coming home next week – keep a lookout & please return as soon as possible. This event is traditionally a ‘sell-out’ (Can’t think why!)

News from the Prep School:

What a busy week it’s been with two trips!

J4 had a fantastic trip on Monday to the West Midlands Police Museum.  They explored Crime and Punishment dating back to Anglo Saxons and Victorians, toured real police cells, dressed up in a range of different uniforms and even solved a crime!

J5 were treated to a tour of the Museum of Islamic Art and Heritage to enrich their topic on Early Islamic Civilisation.  The exhibition included Arabic manuscripts, astrolabes and parchment.  It focused on the Islamic Golden Age of algebra, astronomy and engineering.

Do check out our Prep School socials for photos!

Our Prep assembly was all about Friendship this week – we had scenarios to consider and the conclusion was to treat others as we would wish to be treated.

Our Stars of the week this week are:

  • Infants - Eretria - for improved focus
  • Year 3 - Elena - for her beautiful performance in the music showcase
  • Year 4 - Daniela - for being really brave when having a tumble
  • Year 5 - Tom - for fantastic effort in English
  • Year 6 - Edith & Oscar - for fantastic persuasive arguments
Next week is another busy week.  We have trips to Pershore Library for all the children in Prep and World Book Day on Thursday, where we invite all the children to come dressed as their favourite book character.
There will be a class parade in assembly, followed by the Arts Week certificates that have been awarded.

The PTA has managed to get the Scholastic Book Fair to arrive a day early – so please do come along to buy a book for your child/ren on Thursday and Friday this week after school at 3.30pm.  It will also be open on Monday of next week.  Payment can be made by scanning the QR code in the hall or by cash.  It is a great way to support the library books for Prep, as we receive vouchers from the fair.

Our Stay and Play sessions start again next week on Wednesday, 5th March from 9.30am – 10.30am for children 4 and under and their parent/s.  If you know anyone that would like to come along please ask them to book a place by emailing lisa.mao@bowbrookhouseschool.co.uk

Have a super weekend all.

Mrs Mao and the prep school team.
