Bowbrook News… Arts Week next week!!

Keep your eyes peeled on the school’s socials and for additional news
during the week of Arts events…

Music News

Extra Curricular Next Week: Please note that there will be no Orchestra, Upper Chamber Choir or Folk Group next week; Arts Week will be upon us and all are very excited! Lower Chamber will run as normal on Monday.

Some of our musicians will be performing in a Music Showcase the first Wednesday back after half term as a continued celebration of The Arts at Bowbrook. Please could musicians taking part return their completed reply slip to me ASAP.

ARTS WEEK Music Composition Competition: There is still time for students to write and perform a song around the theme of ‘reflecting upon the mind, enriching positive mental health and healthy living‘. Students can come and share this piece with me on Monday lunch time.

Star of the Week:  Ayana Govin in Year 11 shared her GCSE composition in assembly this week; singing above her multitracked layered accompaniment. What a beautiful and impressive piece of music – very well done Ayana!

Thank you
Mrs Izod

Prep school news

What an exciting week Prep school have had and we’re gearing up for Arts Week next week!

The children were very creative in their costumes this week for our Number Day for NSPCC, who do amazing work.  There were numberblock sweatshirts, dominoes, bead string jumpers, football shirts arriving into school on Thursday!  The children had lots of fun throughout the day doing some problem-solving mysteries, battleships, learning 6 times table to Moana theme tune, learning numbers 1-10 in Spanish.

Mrs Ford joined us to do a Maths Assembly with Mrs Mao and we learnt that Maths is actually everywhere!  In the house, on the way to school, in the classroom – wherever you go!  The assembly concluded with a locked treasure chest full of goodies with a challenge of ‘cracking the code’ for the padlock.

Well done to all those volunteers who came out to the front to do the number challenges.

Our Stars of the week this week are:
  • Infants - Olivia - for super hard work in Maths
  • Year 3 - George - for super reading and a fantastic talk all about Cornwall
  • Year 4 - Ruth - for being incredibly helpful in class
  • Year 5 - Tom - for fantastic effort in English
  • Year 6 - Harriet - for a fantastic description of the Amazon rainforest
We are all excited for Arts Week next week.
The children have chosen two or more competitions to enter.
If the children are entering the Film competition this can be anything from 30 seconds to 2-3 minutes of film related to the theme of Body and Mind: physical and emotional wellbeing.  The children can send this via the one drive.

Monday we start with a Well-being Welly Walk with lots of challenges to conquer, followed by a hot chocolate cafe.  Children will come in school uniform and get changed into PE kits and wellies/walking boots before heading out. There will be drop in Street Art and Obliteration room with Mrs Mills at break time and Origami at lunchtime with Mrs Mao.

Tuesday we are doing a whole school dance, followed by Infants off to Forest School.  Pancakes (£1 donation to Young Minds – ‘flat as a pancake’) will be available to eat at break with Miss White at break and there is a drop in for beads and bracelets at lunch time with Mrs Mao.  The Animal Man is also in that day so all the children in Prep will get to meet some special visitors that day!

Wednesday we have three activities planned  (mosaics, pottery, painting with veg) in Prep School in the morning.  Also on offer at lunch time will be drop in Pottery with Miss Wanklyn and drop in mini-spa for Years 5&6 with Mrs Mason.  And of course we have our Prep Bowbrook’s Got Talent before lunch and our whole school Bowbrook’s Got Talent in the afternoon.

Thursday we are mixing from Reception to Year 11 for a whole school Curriculum Alive Day, where there will be lots of great activities and external visitors dropping in to do workshops.  Drop in face painting and drop in yoga are also available this lunch time.

Friday Years 5 and 6 are doing watercolour painting in Forest School in the morning and Year 3 and 4 are doing Art activities in the Forest School in the afternoon.  There is a Prep Valentines craft drop in with Miss White this day too.

Finally, please do all put the Arts Week Showcase 2025 on your calendar for Friday, 14th Feb from 3.30pm – 4.30pm.  Do come along and see all the fabulous work the children have produced during the week!

Have a great weekend everyone
Mrs Mao and Prep Team

And lastly...

Parental request:

I have been approached to ask if anyone has a work space available within a relatively short distance from Bowbrook – a desk or modest space – that a parent may work from during the school day, perhaps even for a small ‘rental’ fee?  If you have a space or a suggestion, please get in touch with Mrs Hodgson and we will put you in touch with each other.
