Parents’ This Week

Infant News

Welcome back!

Welcome back everyone to a very busy and very cold first few days back. Everyone seems to have got back into the routine of things very quickly…

Well done Year 11. Mock GCSEs are over and we can now focus on the final hurdle as we gallop towards Easter. Please remember Year 11 Parents’ Evening is on Thursday 16th Jan. Starting at 4.30 p.m. in the Scholfield block.

Starting with staff news

Unfortunately, we have been three staff down most days this week which is far from ideal but cannot be helped. My thanks go to all who have stepped in to minimise disruption to the pupils.

Mrs Partridge

Whilst on staff news: It is my duty to inform parents that Mrs Partridge will be leaving us at half term. She has secured a job working with student services & admissions at the Global Institute of Sport. We wish her well. The process of finding her successor has already begun and we will of course keep parents informed.
Mr Mills and Mr Swain are very conscious of the potential impact to Mrs Partridge’s Travel & Tourism groups and are already working on plans to cover and support pupils. We will work with Mrs Partridge and keep pupils and parents informed.

Art Room News

Happy new year from the Art department…. it’s only 5 weeks to go until Arts Week! All information and regular updates can be found in the weekly e-news and @BowbrookArts
Art room news for 13th Jan 2025

Year 10 and 11 Art club has started this week and will continue to take place every Tuesday lunchtime and each Thursday from 4-5pm. With the year 11 Art exam beginning this week, please encourage students to attend the clubs on offer.

Please note, that due to parents evenings, there will be no club on Thursday 16th January or Thursday 6th February this half term.

French exchange meeting, Tuesday, 14th May, 4.15 in S5

Thank you again for offering to host a French student from the 24th-28th March. I would like us to meet on Tuesday, 14th January at 4.15 to give more details and answer questions you may have about hosting. The meeting will be in my room (S5) which I’m sure your child will be able to show you. Please bring a pen as you may wish to make notes and there will be a little paperwork to check.
For those whose child will be making the return visit to France, the meeting will be slightly longer as I can now give more precise details about our trip (21st-25th May).

Thank you once again for your support and I look forward to meeting you on Tuesday evening.

Kind regards,
Mr Whittingham

Welcome back to Prep!

I have been so impressed with how the children have come back to school ready for the new year.  It has been a great start with lots of busy children jumping into their new topics.   Infants are doing Traditional tales and have kicked off with Cinderella; J3 are learning all about Rainforests; J4 Settlements; J5 Early Islamic Civilisation and J6 The Maya Civilisation.

J6 had a workshop called Hydration Heroes from Rob at Severn Trent Water, where the class learnt the importance of water on the different organs in the human body.  We then had a whole Prep Assembly to learn about the water cleaning process and what we can do to not waste water with the help of 10 volunteers from Juniors.  Did you know that only 1% of the planet’s water is useable fresh water?!

At the end of Assembly Luca from Year 4 kindly showed us his collection of certificates he was awarded from the Atlantis in Dubai for marine skills – well done Luca!

Next week we have Miss Blackshaw going into Year 4 with Miss Tait, as a Learning Support Assistant.  Miss Looby is supporting in Year 5 this term.   We have been very lucky to have Miss Hunter in Year 3 doing some work experience – the children have loved it and we look forward to seeing her again for her final week next week.

Have a lovely weekend all.

Mrs Mao and Prep team

That certainly looked great fun! Have a good weekend everyone. Stay warm!
