Staff News
It is usually – quite rightly – all about the pupils…But this week I start off with some Staff news.
After the best part of 19 years of service to Bowbrook House School, Mrs Mellor has decided the time is right to step down and follow new interests.
Mrs Mellor has been an integral part of the school for many years and she will be sorely missed and we all wish her well in her new endeavors.
We will of course see her off properly in due course! But I thought it right that, with Mrs Mellor’s permission, staff and pupils were made aware that she will be leaving at the end of this academic year.
Even in her ‘retirement’ Mrs Mellor is thinking of the Pupils and the School first and wanting us to have plenty of time to advertise and find a replacement!
Bowbrook’s Zoo for a day
New date. Wednesday 20th March. (apologies – my fault!).
To support British Science week 2024, we are holding our third, biennial ‘Zoo for a day’ at Bowbrook. Pupils will bring their pets into school for other children to see and for their owners to show their knowledge about the animal and how to care for it etc.
Caged animals (not dogs or cats) can be brought into school on Wednesday 20th March from 8.00am. Pets in cages should be ‘booked in’ to the ‘Lab 1’ by the Infants’ playground. If parents are able to plan time into their day, then larger animals and dogs can be brought in from lunchtime (12.00-2.00) and supervised on the school field.
All pupils will be able to visit the ‘field Zoo’ during their lunchbreak. It is hoped that we can persuade parents to bring in farm animals as part of our Zoo. In the past we have had Sheep, Lambs, calves, horses, chickens, ducks…all welcome.
At 2.00 we will be having a school community dog walk. All pupils from Year 6 to Year 11 can, if they wish, join the walk along with parents, grandparents and their family dog.

Maths Picnic
Christine Watson from AMSP came into school to deliver the Maths Picnic Challenge on Thursday. Years 8 and 9 Maroon Maths groups had a great morning developing their problem solving and team working skills. With the added bonus of food and prizes!
Congratulations to the winning Year 9 team: Lottie Pennington-Fairchild, Amelia Speers and Ellie Dean; and the winning Year 8 Lucy Whittington, Zoe Mudd and Isabelle Izod.
'The Great Waddle of Worcester'
We were very excited to collect our baby penguin and bring him into school. The School Council art reps will be launching the ‘Design our penguin’ Competition next week and we are looking forward to as many pupils entering as possible. The Form representatives will provide entry sheets and all the information required.
For those of you who are new to Bowbrook, the project, which is organised as a fundraiser for St Richard’s Hospice, involves schools, businesses and professional artists. Artists are elected to decorate the full size animal sculptures and these are auctioned at the end of the summer. The small sculpture are purchased as a fundraiser and we are lucky to be sponsored by AA Salt, a company run by a Bowbrook family.
The sculptures, large and small are placed all around the city to create a sculpture trail. We will have fun choosing a theme for the decoration of our baby penguin and we hope to see many of you involved in the designing stage.
News from the Prep School
Welcome back to the latter half of the Spring Term. For pupils in J4 this started on Monday with their trip to the West Mercia Police Museum, a fun day was had by all and everyone returned to school having avoided being arrested!!
Year 4 also took our assembly this week with an amazing shadow puppet theatre that they had created in class. Our Star Pupils for this week are:
- N/R - Max Taylor for being a kind friend.
- I1 - Ryder Cassidy for super guided reading.
- I2 - Elena Svancara for good teamwork in PE playing bench ball.
- J3 - Daniella Bille for spotting similarities and differences in the Easter story.
- J4 - Sienna Comens for excellent behaviour and participation on the school trip.
- J5 - Olivia Greenwood for a wonderful presentation in current affairs.
- J6 - Violet Williams for super English using Iambic Pentameter.
We have also had several pupils reach their Accelerated Reading Target, very well done to: George Haydon, Georgina Dicken, Fabien Mason, Ben Rowe, Rory Mason, Aadil Haque, Beau Clarke and Summer Comens.
A couple of dates for your diary:
Thursday 7th March we will be celebrating National World Book Day. All Prep pupils are invited to come to school dressed as their favourite book character – there will not be any money collected for this.
Thursday 14th March we will have our Prep School Parents’ Evening, a letter will be with you on Monday outlining the finer details. For our Infants this will commence at 3.30pm and Juniors from 4.15pm. We look forward to seeing you all there.
