The Week Ahead

Well – Only 2 days back and…
1 International Penguin Award
1 National ISA Art Award
1 Runner Up in the Worcestershire Education Awards!

National ISA Art Success:
We were delighted to hear news from ISA that Bowbrook have won first place in the National ‘Collaborative Art’ competition. Groups of Year 8 and 9’s worked hard on these entries last term in textiles and in the pottery. We could submit only three pieces.

The winning entry was created by Charlotte Pennington Fairchild, Amelia Speers and Ellie Dean. They designed the textile hanging based on the theme of inclusivity and togetherness, and it was designed and planned to be gifted to The Maggs Day Centre. This linked to Mrs Farr’s fundraising events. for the same cause.

The girls can feel very proud of their achievement. It is quite something to come first in an ISA competition: The judges’ report was really complimentary.

I would also like to praise the whole of Year 8 and 9. They worked so hard on their respective textile and ceramic pieces last term.

Further info and pictures are available on the school’s website and on our Instagram feed…

The Worcestershire Education Awards:
Run in conjunction with the School for Education at Worcester University and supported by The Worcester News, we attended the WEA gala dinner last night only to narrowly miss out on the title Independent School of the Year for the second year running. It is an honour to be a finalist again, especially having won this category last year and it is very gratifying that parents and pupils too the trouble to write in and to nominate us. Thank you so much!

Spike our adopted Bowbrook Penguin:
Birdland in Stratford houses our adopted penguin ‘Spike’ who has gone global in an online competition to find the world’s best-looking Penguin. If you follow our Facebook feed you will know Spike is a winner and featured on the One show last night!

The prep department are planning to visit Spike and to say well done and get some ‘selfies’ with him!

He is all over our Facebook account if you want to see what a handsome chap he is!

Parental/Pupil and Staff Surveys:

Thank you to the many who took the time to complete the parental survey at the end of last term. We value the opinion of parents, students and staff alike. It is reassuring that the feedback we have received is overwhelmingly positive (85% – 95% +) and reflects the values and ethos of our school. It is useful to receive constructive feedback and we will use the surveys to guide and influence practice and process as we move forwards. Thank you once again and, as always, our doors remain open for discussion should you wish to speak in person about any aspect of the survey, or indeed any aspect of school life.

Parent Portal Coming Soon:

We will soon be sending out details for you to sign into the parent portal. We have a staff portal called ‘Engage’ and we are extending this to parents. In the main, the ‘Engage Parent Portal’ will allow us to make contact with you easily through notices which will also be sent to you via the parent portal and as an e-mail. The portal itself will allow priority contacts to access your child’s school reports, timetable and attendance details as well as view emergency contact and other key details. The school calendar is also available to view in the portal.
We will also be encouraging parents to download the app so contents can be viewed easily by phone and ‘push notifications’ can be received for important or time sensitive messages.
Like any system, it will take a little time to get used to and it the functionality will evolve over time but we hope it will be a useful. Further details and instructions will be sent out in due course.

Uniform:

Taken from the Middle and Senior School Parent’s Handbook:

“Please will Parents ensure that their child arrives at and leaves from the school looking presentable and dressed correctly in their school uniform, taking ‘pride’ in their appearance.”

“We appreciate that uniform can be both inconvenient on occasions and sometimes expensive but it is a necessary standard. Our standards are high and it is an expectation of the school that parents support our uniform policy”

“It is very important to the smooth running of day-to-day life in school that all pupils are properly equipped and properly attired. It can be very frustrating to both staff and pupils as well as disruptive to lessons if a pupil is not in possession of the required equipment, or if they arrive at a lesson inappropriately attired”.

To enable all parents to support with this before their child arrives at school, there is a document attached which clarifies our stance on aspects of uniform and appearance. Parent’s handbooks are also available on the school website and clarification can be sought from tutors.

Attached is a pdf for more info.

Talking of Uniform. A message from the Parents’ Committee:

Pre loved uniform:
From Monday 24th April for the week, the PC will be holding a pop up 2nd hand uniform sale each afternoon from 3.30 to 4.15 in the school hall.

This is also a perfect opportunity for you to donate any clean items to us.

Please remember cash only – thank you.

Lost Property:
If named it generally finds its way back to the owner reasonably easily being such a small school. Unnamed items are harder to trace! Mrs Hodgson/Mrs ironside usually have quite a collection in the front office! Including:

Lost car Key? A very new looking key fob has been found on the school field. Please contact Mrs Hodgson in the school office if you think it could belong to you.

And finally:

Thought for the week
Have a good weekend everybody …
